Mayo Clinic Thoughts

Hey guys,

I don't have a diagnosis yet, but was already once diagnosed with Crohn's and then after a steroid treatment my docs took the diagnosis back. I'm trying to finally get a diagnosis, cause I just wanna know whats going on with me and what I'm treating. For the last 7 weeks I've been having a low-grade fever, abdominal pain, cramping, diarrhea on and off, rectal pain, joint pain and nausea. I'm thinking about going to Mayo Clinic in Rochester, MN and wanted to see if any of you have had any experience with them.

I have not had experience with Mayo, but I do know that the top IBD specialist there, Dr. Loftus, is highly regarded.

Hi Katrina, I made the track to Mayo you years back. I am west coast (Seattle). I do believe Mayo is probably the top organization for IBD. US News and World Report ranks them #1 every year for gastroenterology.

Not sure if you know, but Steph Targan is at Cedar Sinai near you. He is highly regarded in IBD. I consulted with him once.

Best of luck in seeking a firm dx. Mayo will want your records sent to them, but then they will likely review your records and reply to you as to whether they will be willing to consult with you or not. At least that's the way I recall it. You could call them and confirm. Maybe Targan's group could help you, and would be easier/convenient for you without having to fly to MN.

I think you've got a sound idea though, of seeking the top opinion to obtain a firm dx.

Hey guys! Thanks a lot for your responses! Just wanted to let you know that I went to Mayo Clinic, and the experience was incredible. Within 4 days I got a diagnosis. I was diagnosed with Rheumatoid Arthritis and still questioned Crohn's. But I'm now on treatment and hoping I could get better soon. Thanks a lot for your help!
