Umm. I think I have prob had crohns for a few years now but I was just diagnosed in may. It was a very stressful time for me. It all stared in early November. My boyfriend of 3 years was diagnosed with cancer. (hes in remission now) I started losing weight, had little to no appetite, and was losing hair. At the time we wrote it off as stress. When he started to get better and my symptoms continued I went to the doctor. Later that same day I was sent to the hospital with a hemoglobin level of 6. Had a blood transfusion and was released. All the nurses and doctors I saw for the next month thought I had an eating disorder. I was so mad. I LOVE food. Well most of it lol. I'm a vegetarian and have been since second grade. I felt like they were going to lock me away in a hospital for ppl with eating disorders. Finally my hematologist sent me into a gi doc in Boston who figured it out! I was so relieved, but now I'm dealing with crohns for the rest of my life. I've had prednisone, and 2 antibiotics. Currently I'm getting ramicade and starting 6mp. Hoping for the best!

Welcome ot the forum Brit.

I am sorry to hear about your diagnosis and your boyfriend's also, but am glad he is now in remission.

Glad you got a proper diagnosis... it can make you feel crazy to be told you are something you know is not true at all!

Hope to see you around the forum!

Hi Brit

Welcome to the forum.

I'm glad you got a diagnosis and didn't have to constantly fight against them telling you that you had an eating disorder.

Sounds like they've got you on some solid meds---I hope for the best for you too!

Glad to have you here.

Cheers,

Kismet

Hi Brit and welcome! I'd say you were under a lot of stress. That most certainly could have been the trigger for your Crohn's; it didn't cause your Crohn's, but caused it to present itself. How are you doing with your new treatment plan? Many have done really well with Remicade. Check out the Remicade Club for lots of good info.

I hope you continue to improve, and I hope your BF remains in remission!

Thanks everyone! And xJillx I'm not really sure how I'm doing. Lol. I felt great on the pred. Now that I'm off it and just doing the remicade my stomach does hurt a little more. But I'm still gaining weight so I figure I can deal. As long as they don't want to put me in the hospital I'm happy!

Welcome to the forum brit!

So sorry to hear about your boyf, but it's good that he's in remission :) Hopefully, you'll get there soon enough. I know EXACTLY how you feel about the eating disorder thing.

When I first went under investigation, that's all my doc would say to my mum. (I was seventeen, and she was a pediatrician, so I was often treated as a child >) She ordered me a full body MRI. I swear it was only full body because she didn't want to insult me by telling me my pain was non-existant :p Unfortunately, my crohn's ruined her plans at the last minute.

Anyways, welcome to the forum :)
