Just wondering ... do you make your child wear a medical id bracelet? And, if so, what info did you put on it?

I never had one as a child although I have thought about getting one as an adult, especially since I have pain med allergies that I didn't know about as a child.

I don't, but with your kiddos additional dietary needs I might consider it. My dd is super careful about what she eats (her GI told me in front of her to put her on a low fat diet. She only eats snack at school, which I am not worried about, but she came home and informed me that froot loops have one gram of fat per serving lol!)

I didn't have one as a child either. Can't really engrave medicines on it as they change often. There are ones that you can plug into the computer (USB) and change the information as needed (although you could use any memory stick for that). My parents just informed the school and teacher of my condition in case anything happened. I know the other kids would have asked about a bracelet or necklace if I wore it all the time and know that they would have made fun of my health condition. Not all kids are the same sure but not all are nice either.

Edit: I did get a medical ID card for my wallet once I started carrying one (around 14 years old). You can get a pin that shows there's an alert card in the wallet.

I have never had one for my kids. Their Crohn's alone doesn't necessitate one and the meds they are now on wouldn't exclude any treatment in an emergency. You may be interested in these websites, they would likely give you ideas as to what information is normally contained within them...

This website has some really great bracelets for kids...

This website has a free Med ID wallet card that you can generate...

I don't have one for Stephen but like the wallet card idea as he's allergic to Cipro. Thanks Dusty

If perchance the child had a Central IV or PICC Line than that information would be VERY useful during an emergency especially if they were to lose a lot of blood or if there was some sort of heart problem etc.

Don't forget the bubble wrap, helmet, and leash. Izz doesn't leave home without them. School??? BAH! Overrated! ;)

Medica alert is a 24 hour service not "just a bracelet"
DS has one for Food allergies.
YOu can have all of the medical info and medicines constantly updated online not just engraved so the hospital /docs would have the right info.

anyone with drug allergies should have one since if your not there and your kiddo is out of it or too young to talk the doc need to know that info quickly.

in the US there is a kids smart which is cheaper than the adult version plus they run "sales" where the price is really low.

If you were in a car accident with your kiddo you may not be able to speak or be brought to a separate hospital a pin or wallet card can get over looked in the wreckage EMT know to look for medic alert bracelets other "Things" types shoe tags etc may not be noticed.

My 10 year old has one. She has an anaphalactic allergy to pumpkin, we also have her IBD info on there.

Old V has one due to dysauto which can cause fainting.
I added Crohn's on there too, and asthma.
It was over $100., that wasn't too cool, but she's had it for years now.

HAHA! I just googled this question to see if I should get one for A - as it was told that I might need one and our group is where I found the answer!!

LOVE IT!!! Makes me smile!!
