Has anyone ever been given medication for diarrhoea after surgery? My op was 9 weeks ago and was a bit up and down but for the last week I have had diarrhoea each time I go - funnily enough, this started up after I started a food elimination diet! (Gluten, dairy, eggs and soy) just wondering if it's worth asking for some medication to help with this at this point

Yep, I use both psyllium every day and immodium when that's not enough.
I re-started psyllium probably a month or two after the operation and I much prefer it over anything else but sometimes it just doesn't do enough.
Could you ask to start with psyllium?

Ye me too had ileostomy reversal 11mths back n have been on loperide since also questran for bile salt malabsorbtion . Which can cause the big d. .speak with docs n see what they recommend. Best wishes 💕

Thank you both, I will ask the doctors. It's quite frustrating as I was led to believe one of the big advantages of having the op was that I would then not have any symptoms for a long while or need medication. I need to get my head around that! Thank you x

Thanks all, I saw my gp yesterday and she has given me a prescription for loperamide to take either daily or every other day so hopefully that will help. She also said it can take some people 6 months - a year to fully recover which is much longer than I have been told before so its a long old road!

Your welcome hun. Hope it helps you. It did me n should for you. Bear in mind tho you may still get odd days were you are loose still. Best wishes. 💕
