Meds after Small Bowel Resection - CD

Hello,

I had 12 inches of severely inflamed ileum/cecum removed last week. It was four times normal size and no infection.


I will see my GI next week. Any advice on keeping well? Did you go back to Imuran immediately as I did?

Hi, I just had my 4th resection and yes I did restart my Imuran 200mg right away along with Humira. Right now I am on a low residue diet until I see the surgeon next week for my recheck. I have loose stool but no "D" are you on a low residue diet or eating normally? Sometimes your bowel needs a little extra time to heal from the surgery so maybe you're eating too much fiber, I would check with the surgeon and let them know what is going on, but you shouldn't be running to the bathroom with such urgency. Also sometimes after I have surgery I am a little lactose intolerant so I avoid milk even the 2 cups that are allowed on the low residue diet. Good Luck

Hi! Yes on a surgical soft low residue fiber free diet. I am avoiding fats.

I will see my GI Dr. next week and the surgeon a week after.

I had bad D after my resection as well, the doc said that would taper off, and it would be back to 'normal' again. It is back to normal...but I ALWAYS have D...or super loose stool, but the urgency is gone

Hi , I also had the same operation as you about 3 weeks ago now. I'm still having loose stools but no real urgency. I suppose im going about 4 times per day at the moment.
Hope all will calm down with your urgency.

I had same operation also, I'm home 2 days now. The only meds that I'm on are Prednisone,I will go back to Asacol after another week.
What is the Imuran for? I had Antibiodicts (IV) in the hospital.
Should I take a bolder approach with meds so that this demon monster disease does not come back?
I too am up for all of the advise.

I can't take prednisone it makes me crazy,literally. I stayed up all night for weeks
on end. Cooked four pots of food every night. Told every person I came in contact with off in a serious way. My husband couldn't stand me I wanted to unzip my self
from my own skin. I had to be admitted to a psyche facility. Anyone else with
steroid pyschosis
