Hi Guy and Girls

I haven't heard much on this thread about Mesalazine, my personal experience of taking this medication for 1 month now is that it basically completely keeps all my Crohns symptoms at bay and keeps my body stable enough to eat/drink and go about putting on weight and absorbing minerals/vitamins as normal, where as steroids are more of a short term boost to my body's defenses.

I think I would be In a lot of pain and getting no where without this medication and seems to have no side effects that I have personally encountered i also don't seem to be developing any resistance to the medication so its effective as long as i'm using it.

I did stop using it for a short period as i was having some muscle pains which turned out to be unrelated and i relapsed back to having abdominal pain again but immediately started taking it to resolve that problem, I have been given enough for another 2 months and ill be reviewing my progress as a go.

Has anyone else used this medication and if so what was your experience ?

Thanks Mark

Hi Mark,

I know lots of people are usually either started out on Mesalamine either right after diagnosis, or to use as a maintenance drug after remission is achieved.

I have taken it on and off over the years, but for me it just wasn't enough to keep my Crohn's at bay. I was on the Pentasa form and also have been on Asacol, after those didn't work, I never tried any of the 5-ASAs again.

I'm glad that it is working out so great for you, and I hope you continue to do well on it. :)

There is a subforum on here that all of the threads have to deal with those drugs. You should take a look around and see how other people have been doing with it.
