met a girl with CD today

So I was waiting in the dentist office this morning when a little girl (about 9 or 10) and her mother walked in. They were running late because it was raining out and there was a lot of traffic. The girl raced into the bathroom and had a bit of a fit because the door wouldn't lock. The mother promised she would guard the door. While the little girl was in the bathroom another patient tried to go into the bathroom and the mother warned the person not to go in that someone was in there. After about 10 minuted the mother told the girl to hurry because people were waiting. The girl just kept saying ok and continued to stay in the bathroom. At first I thought "Wow, this kid is scared to go to the dentist" then I thought, maybe she has an IBD. Wouldn't you know it, the mother had to apologize for her daughter hogging the bathroom because she has Crohn's.

When the little girl got out of the bathroom, I told the her that I had Crohn's too and she was so excited to talk to me. The mother is having a hard time finding foods to feed her daughter that don't make her sick but help her gain weight. She gets conflicting advice from different doctors. I told her try the Makers Diet.

The little girl was so cute and it reminded me if when I had bathroom issues as a kid. The poor kid was probably stressed out about the dentist and the traffic. It is so much more difficult to deal with as a child than as an adult. It was so much more stressfull and embarrasing back then for me. Now I have learned to deal it and I don't care about the public bathroom thing anymore.

Anyway, that is my story for the day.

That was a good story Stuffette! It is always strange where you can run into others with Crohn's Disease. It was great you could also talk with her and her mother, as it is not always easy to have this disease at a young age and always helps to speak with others.

Thats so cool to run into someone else with Crohn's.

Its always an inspiration to me to hear of little kids of 9 or 10 years of age or younger who have Crohn's. I remember when I was fourteen a few years ago with it and it was a living hell. How do you tell your friends who don't understand anything about the body at that age. Its like, "yeah I have this problem that makes me go to the bathroom a lot and sometimes I poop my pants because I can't make it". When you become know as like the poop kid or whatever how can they deal with it. I don't know. I keep everyone with Crohn's in my prayers everyday but especially the younger ones. Next time you go to the dentist tell him/her about this website and to give it to her mom so she can check out the forum. Maybe it can give some advice or something. Or maybe if you can get into contact with you dentist soon to call her mom or something.

I wasn't diagnosed til I was 29 so I can't even imagine. Poor baby. I agree with Jeff. See if you can get in touch with the Mother or if the dentist will and share this forum. It's been great medicine for me just knowing that I'm not the only one in the world with CD. Plus it has tons of info.

I once met a guy with Crohn's at the hospital waiting for my doctor. We talked a little bit. The issue is he seems to be feeling fine and didn't care what he ate or did. Lucky him :))) I found it strange as I seem to have to have researched every book or article on the net for this and still couldn't figure it out....

running into people with Crohn's

i have yet to run into someone who also has crohns. i can't ever see that happening lol

Now that I know I have Crohn's, I am discovering that a lot of people in my area (and family) have some form of IBD. That leads me to believe that it is totally environmental. We have a lot of breast cancer in my area as well. Go figure!
