Since being diagnosed with crohn's I keep wondering how it is i don't have all the symptoms or most of the symptoms of the typical crohnie. The typical crohn's patient seems to have diarreha or blood in the stool. I've never had these. Is there anyone here who hasn't had this? I just have inflammation and abdominal cramps and pain.

I've had blood in my stool but never really any diarrhea... I more so have hard stools. I have had inflammation and abdominal cramps. I go to the doctor tomorrow to see if I even have Crohn's or if it was a misdiagnosis...

Ehhhh!

hi lola99

My symptoms do not really include diarrhoea all the time, but I do suffer with it occassionally. My poos arent properly formed tho. My main symptom is definately pain, excruciating pain. tiredness and achiness are next.

I don't usually suffer with diarrhoea or blood. I have loose stools if I don't eat the right foods, but that's ot. Like the OP, my main symptom is pain. I was diagnosed after I was hospitalised for the pain, bloods showed an infection and so they checked all my abdominal organs, and saw inflammation in the intestines. A colonoscopy confirmed Crohn's. Do you have small bowel disease by any chance?

I have almost no intestinal symptoms. I was diagnosed because i had eye inflammation and horrible gastritis, as well as anemia. it was a hunch about the anemia. which is interesting because I feel like i know a lot of people with with unexplained anemia.

Welcome to the Atypical club. it's a fun place. :welcome:

Lola99, how were you diagnosed if you don't mind me asking? Just curious.

i went into the er with horrible abdominal pain. They said i had a partial blockage after a ct scan. The doctor said it was crohns or he thought it was. Can't remember. then i had a colonoscopy that they took biopsies. They found inflammation but thats it. My only symptoms were terrible cramps.

Every Crohn's case is different and symptoms greatly vary. I don't have D either, but have had a little blood on occassion.

What did your biopsies say?

My biopsies just showed inflammation and thats it. I've never had blood that wasn't related to my fissures and now that they have healed i haven't had blood at all. I have however had a increase in mucus in the last month that i though i might have seen a tiny bit of red in it. I have been off prednisone for almost a week now and im not cramping all day but when i do get cramps they hurt really really bad and my abdomen is really tender to the touch. I'm just taking entocort and asacol now. I wonder what my gi docs course of treatment will be next i see him the in the next few weeks.

The blood is a sign of IBD; you don't have blood with IBS or other less serious GI issues. But it sounds like you do just have a pretty mild case of IBD. So, continue to take care of yourself (take meds, eat well, destress, etc.) and you should do well.

Also, if you are finding symptoms are starting up again since finishing up the pred, don't hesitate to phone your GI. It is better to be safe than sorry.

Totally agree. Now is the time to take care of yourself and stave off anything worse.

What threw me over the edge was stress, so don't get sucked into it!

That sounds similar to me. I had biopsies during a colonoscopy (which looked normal) but I had some mild inflammation. Out of interest, was it your fissures that led to a diagnosis? I'm in the process of getting a diagnosis (getting a THIRD opinion from another colorectal surgeon - can any of these guys make up their mind?) and it's because I've had terrible fissures all my life which recently turned into a big perianal ulcer which wont heal. We've tried EVERYTHING and the last step will be infliximab (remicade to the americans) to see if that works, as its good for perianal disease. Of course if it doesnt, well.. i dont really want to think about that.

How did you heal your fissures?

My fissures never seemed to want to heal on their own.Had issues with them for years. They would heal and then break back open every few months or so. about a a year and half ago i bled really bad from a fissure then I haven't had any issues with it since. Its healed up and the skin tags even shrank down to pretty much nothing recently. I was diagnosed with crohns when i went to the er with a partial blockage.

I get pain, nausea, diarrhea...no blood though

Symptoms will vary...Crohn's can occur anywhere from your mouth to your anus. Where is occurs can change your symptoms. Mine is only in the large intestine.

No diarrhea here had it only when I was first diagnosed however i get fatigue, cramps and bloating.

My son's main symptoms were tiredness, fever, diarrhea, weight loss which would come for 3-4 days, disappear for 1-2 weeks and reappear. He didn't have any pain, cramping, or blood.

Crohn's seems like such a clear cut illness, with clear symptoms but it is so unique to everyone's symptoms.

So I'm reading that many of you have constant pain. Isn't there something that can be done for that? What do you do to deal with it? I don't think the pred (now down to 15 a day) and Pentasa are working too well for me. I'm feeling worse now than when I started. Mornings seem to be the worse. And now I've developed a cough from a cold...Lordy, coughing is painful! So what do we do, just sit around and suffer? I'm thinking of surgery, pretty darn quick, if possible.

I am only allowed to take Tylenol for pain...once inflammation goes down and I am eating milder foods or on a liquid diet then the pain is better.

The coughing is much better now, and so is the pain. I think you're right. Eating lighter and milder is the key. I haven't tried the total liquid diet yet, but may if the pain starts up again.
