This week I had my yearly appointment with my regular doctor. This time she ordered me a blood test checking everything. Today I got my results back and it looks like I'm mildly Diabetic with my count being 120 (if I remember right). The goal is to have it 100 or lower so some pills are being prescribed, I'm expected to obtain fiber a couple times a week and am to follow up with her in 3 months.

Now, Diabetes runs in every generation on my mom's side of the family. So, I'm not totally in shock that I just got diagnosed with it. But, my question to you is how those of you with IBD who also have been diagnosed with Diabetes manage both of these challenges at the same time? Do you have any troubles dealing with the two?

I hope this finds you all well. :)

I'm in a similar boat haven't addressed it with meds yet. My problem is I rely on low fiber products like white flour items and carbs which are all sugar. I'm trying to figure out better options.

Thanks for the info noguts! I'm sorry to hear that you're in the same boat. I start this new med in the morning and am to see the doctor 3 months to the day that I start this new med. Maybe exciting since it sounds like this stuff can cause gas and diarrhea. But, will keep you updated.

By monday I was having abdomen pains and also had an accident at home with diarrhea. Talked to my pharmacist friend at work about it, telling him that I couldn't be having accidents at work and he agreed. So, we decided to try me on half a pill on tuesday to see what happened. Thankfully that worked.

I'm doing alright now. But, will soon need to contact my GI to update him on what's happening and see if he has any suggestions as to how to balance my IBD and my diabetes together. We'll see what he says...

Have you looked at the crohns exclusive diet ???
Low sugar ( 2 teaspoons a day) no grains so low carb
All veggies are cooked and chosen specifically since they are easier on the gut
No milk no canned goods /fillers etc....
Might work for diabetic
Does work for crohns in some .....not all
My thread on what's permitted etc...
