Does anybody enjoy this as breakfast anymore? With soy milk and lactose free options out there I wonder what cereals people might of found that work for them if any?

Fortunately I can have milk sparingly.
And I have found Special K cereal to be just fine. :)

I wanted to add I enjoy your poetry!

Thanks Nancy. Its my therapy these days.

I have started trying soy milk. It taste just like milk to me or close enough. So I am considering giving cereal a chance for breakfast again. I doubt captain crunch will be the test though, although I use to love it.

Ha yeah that stuff isnt that great for you. Maybe try some warm cereals or maybe make your own. Just take oatmeal and toast it in the oven for a while and instant cereal and it probably costs a lot less. Tell us what cereal tastes best to you so more people can have an idea about what cereals work with what milks. Also have you tried almond milk I heard its pretty good but I have never tried it.

I think Special K is rice cereal that's why I can handle it.

As to your writing Jak...you would be surpised how many of us do...
I know Jeff is a writer as am I.

Mine is poetry also...and I moderate a great site if you are ever interested.
Just PM me.

Yes..it is great therapy. :)

I thought I was being bad one day and I had Honey Bunches of Oats... but somehow I can seem to handle it. I love love love Honey Bunches of Oats... although I wish I could do Shredded Wheats again, as they were my true favorite before I was diagnosed. Also, I can handle Crispix. But I just sat here and had an Oreo McFlurry... hoping that I can dilute it with tons of water so it doesn't hurt me too bad. Someday I may be brave enough to try popcorn again, but I doubt it.

OH and one thing I've found as a good popcorn substitute is the Quakers Rice cakes in the caramel corn flavor... just smash them up and put them in a bag and its almost like having popcorn again.

Honey bunches of oats would be my choice as well. i think i will give them a shot with soy milk. and i definitely do rice cakes as well. its one of the only snakes i can handle.

I too can have milk very sparingly. I still have cows milk in tea and coffee and once every blue moon, I'll have cereal. As far as cereal goes, I tend to stick to things like rice crispies, cornflakes, porridge and shredded wheat. I stay away from high fibre ones and all the others with wheat in.

Personally I still love my cream of what.
pour some water on it and shove it in the microwave.
Dump off the access water and pour a liitle lactose milk on
and then sprinkle with a little bit of brown sugar.mmmm good.
Or once in a while I will have Oatmeal crisp triple berry with lactose milk.

I don't eat a lot of cereal anymore. Not that I can't eat it, but that I tend to find myself too busy to actually eat breakfast unless it's a weekend and then I usually make us something more substantial for breakfast like french toast or pancakes or waffles.

One of my favorite hot cereals is Cream of Rice with a little maple syrup and butter. Makes me feel like I'm eating country grits again. mmmmmmm!

You have to choose your cereals carefully, as lots of them have too much sugar and highly processed so they are not very good for IBD. I also cannot handle milk well as it causes me to have gas and discomfort.

For breakfast I usually have a hard boiled Omega 3 egg, chamomille tea, rice cake or toast with honey and a banana. I also sometimes eat plain yoghurt with or without flaxseed oil.

I drink Silk soy milk and it is yummy! I can eat the rice cereals with no problems. Cheerios I can handle in small amounts. Warm cereals just feel better to the tummy tho. Cream of Wheat, oatmeal, farrina, GRITS.....YUM!

I do the same thing with the rice cakes! I miss popcorn.

I eat cereal usually as a bedtime snack. I use vanilla soy milk and put in on my raisin bran or occasionally I will treat myself to Fruity Pebbles!! It took a while but now I cannot imagine my cereal with anyting but vanilla soy milk.

Here's my issue.. I'm on a fibre restricted diet.. I'm supposed to avoid fibre rich food when my digestive system is ailing... apparently to rest the system. but everybody and their mother is adding fibre to foods these days. Sheeesh, give a guy a break.
Or a breakfast cereal that is NOT loaded down with all that extra fibre.. If you find a low fibre cereal out there, please let me know.. As for sugars, that's a big no no also..

Old fashioned oats with honey, a little cinnamon, and my lactose free milk is about all the options I have for the present..

HBoO has 2g of fiber per serving. Although is you eat a full bowl like I do its more like 3g+. Not too bad, about 10% daily value.

Soy in general, unless it is fermented has a substance in it that mimics estrogen. It is not recommended for males for this reason. Not sure if Soy milk is different for some reason.

I tried the cheerios with honey. It's OK (in moderation). I suspected it was flavoured with sugar. So I found a generic brand.. and they use real honey, and have a lower fibre content. (which better suits my diet). I've noted that a lot of generic brands are lower in fat, salt, etc... Like, I've found that higher priced brandnames with specialty labels (heart healthy, hearty choice, etc ..) aren't typically as good nutritionaly for me as no name brands. Go figure. You really have to look at labels and comparison shop.

Does Soybean oil has the same effect as soy? as it's usually included in multivitamines for vitamin E?

I usually eat Special K with strawberries. its good for you and tastes good. as for milk I used to drink soy milk with extra vanilla, but recently I was reading its highly recommended to drink Raw Goat Milk.

Hi dean. Just be careful from where you get the raw goat's milk, as it may contain bacteria or viruses that may cause havoc with your Crohn's... I think to be on the safe side it's always better to boil your milk before eating it, as this will kill all the bacteria including MAP.

I too love Honey Bunches of Oats and I can handle it. I also like Quaker Oatmeal Squares cereal. I have the hardest time so far with Cheerios??
Any ideas as to why?

i'm ok with most cereals apart from those with bran, and muesli.

i tend to mix a couple, like special k and maybe some oaty crunchy things - but the only way i can tolerate cereal is with yoghurt, not milk. i buy yoghurt drinks for this, preferably pro-biotic. & its yummy :D
