I thought people with Crohns get colonoscopys regularly. Why would it not have been caught sooner?

The cancer is most likely located where the scope can't reach. If I remember correctly Bev's Crohns is in here ileum so that would most likely explain why they didn't find it until she was operated on.

Dusty. :)

i agree with Dustykat, I do believe that is where the crohns was located and why it was not caught until now. Of course this is something that only Bev can answer for sure.

While I have UC, and not crohns. My doctor thinks I should have my colon removed as a precaution against cancer. Due to the amount psuedo-polyps that have formed in my colon, he said that if I develop cancer, it would take them awhile to find it.

I also think it is where the crohns is located. I was told I do not need then on a regular basis b/c of where my crohns is

They tell me it takes 10 years from initial onset of severe symptoms until we truly hit the higher risk category that warrants annual inspections. And from what I understand abnormal growth in the small intestine is rather rare even in Crohn's patients.
