Mj and hemp in Georgia

I talked to my Gastro about using mj to treat my crohns.. He said he is not registered/ licensed but that he would be willing to sign up, but does not know process or how long it takes. He has 2 other patients wanting to try it.

He encourages me to try 6mp and remicade which he can start me on promptly, but mj seems safer.

Anybody else in Georgia have experience being registered for mj by their gastro?

Also, does anybody understand the law herein GA. It appears like once you are registered you can possess a sm. quantity of (High CBD, Low THC) oil. But there are no licensed dispenseries and it is still illegal to buy, sell,or grow mj. For a medicinal plant that seems to help so many people with Crohns, this seems like a cruel joke and forces people in need of help to use rather dangerous chemo drugs which are readily dispensed, or to leave the support of their friends and families and move to a different state.

Are the high cbd-low thc hemp products (cwbotanticals and canna vest) under the same restrictions?

Then there is marinol. Hospitals readily dispense this medicine which capitalizes on High THC (the physiological, mood-altering part of mj). You can get a prescription from your Dr., pick up at a pharmacy here in GA. And that is great for people in pain, who have nausea and trouble eating. But not great for people who are having trouble healing or who have inflammation and are flaring with Crohn's. Those people need the High CBD, Low THC.

I asked my GI about mm a few months ago. My GI told me he pretty much has no interest in hearing about it and won't ever be using it for his patients. He told me I should move to Colorado if I was interested in marijuana. I've since switched doctors. At least your GI is open to the idea. It can be tough finding a GI in the Atlanta area that's even open to marijuana discussion. Someone suggested I try a naturopathic doctor to get registered for mm. That may be the easier way to go about it for us Georgians.

As far as the law goes you pretty much have it figured out. The law was essentially symbolic. It just decriminalized possession for a certain amt & type for registered people. Since we still can't buy mm in state you'd have to go out of state to get some, but then it's illegal to carry that across state lines into states where marijuana is still illegal (which is every single one of Georgia's neighbors). It's really a shame, and hopefully some more legislation will come up to address actual distribution, but until then, Georgia being a medical marijuana state is really in name only.

Thanks for the reply. So disappointing that a medicine with such few side effects would be kept from a crohn's patient.

Hello again,

What doctor did you go see? My wife and I have an appointment to see Dr. Huckaby in Macon at the end of the month. I have also read through the entire law on the state website. Once you have the card, you can legally carry up to 20 fluid ounces of the oil.
On another note, if he is a Doctor, he can sign up for the program without any problems.

All he/she has to do is go to this website: http://dph.georgia.gov/low-thc-oil-registry

..and then press the big blue button that says "Physicians sign up here". Right below that is a step by step guide on how to use the registry. I think he might dodging the issue without actually saying "I'm against it", so he is going to prescribe remicade to you. If we go to the doctor and he says no, I wont waste any time and I'll walk right the f*ck out.. time is not a luxury those who suffer can afford, and we will not be yanked around with ignorant people..

Hi, he sent in the paperwork. I'm waiting for a reply. My system is not though and I just had to go on 6mp. Hope to be off it soon. Thanks for reply

I'm glad he sent in the paperwork! Congrats! From what I've read, only about 55 people in the entire state have had success in getting doctors on board. I am sorry to hear that you had to go on the 6mp, but, hopefully it will give you some relief until the card gets there and dispensaries in Georgia open up. I've been trying to find out when the medical board for MMJ of Georgia will meet next to discuss the dispensary problem. So far, nothing much has indicated a date

Hi- I'm also looking for info on Georgia marijuana use for Crohns. I already know my doctor will have no interest in it. He will want me to continue trying the biologics but I know marijuana works and is safer and the biologics give me side effects. Anyway, I really need to find a new doctor that is open to these things. Who do yall see?
