Hi, I'm new to this forum and wanted to reach out to other moms in my situation.

Everything started when my oldest daughter started getting uncontrollable diarrhea at 15 months old. She lost 5lbs in just a few weeks (20% of her body weight), but doctors insisted it was "just a bug". I pressed for about 4 months, then gave up when she seemed to get better. A year later my 2nd was born, and at 4 weeks old started screaming in pain, almost 24/7, uncontrollably. There were ER visits, doctor visits, acid reflux meds, etc. When she started losing weight at 6 months I said enough is enough and took her to a GI, and two months later she was diagnosed with Crohn's Disease. Yes, at 8 months old. Believe it or not, it's not the youngest diagnosed case. I immediately told my GI (who I LOVE and ADORE with all my heart) that my oldest daughter has the same. He was skeptical, but did blood work and found that her SED was even higher than her sisters. Scope confirmed it.

My girls are now 5 and 3, and have a younger sister (our "happy accident" as Bob Ross would say) who is 17 months and has so far dodged the bullet. Next year my oldest will start kindergarten and we get to deal with everything that goes with that. Any advice, tips, encouragement, etc. would be so appreciated. I've interacted with a few other moms, but most have much older children - children who can swallow pills and tell you where it hurts. I'm not saying that makes it any easier - my 5 year old is much harder to deal with now than she was when she was 3! - but it's definitely different. And likewise, I am here for the same for any other moms out there!

And BTW, I'm in the Seattle area. Thanks all!

jworton I just wanted to welcome you aboard! I cannot imagine what it might be like for a baby to have Crohn's and not be able to express themselves. They only know they hurt and don't really have the ability yet to understand the pain.

I wish you and your children the best and hope for a smooth transition into kindergarten! :D

Hi jworton

Welcome to the forum! Thank goodness you were persistent with your daughters in order to find what is wrong with them. I'm always amazed at how dismissive doctors can be, so it's great that your daughters have you in their corner!

There is a subforum for parents of kids with IBD. It's in the Support Section, and you'll meet a lot of amazing parents like you who will be able to offer you tons of support, guidance and information.

I would really encourage you to have a look at the threads in the subforum and post some of your questions there. Those moms and dads will have you set up in no time, I'm sure!

Cheers,

Kismet
