Just needed to vent on here for a hot second.

I work with elderly mentally disabled people - schizophrenia, bipolar disorder, etc. And one of my clients comes up to me and goes "Excuse me but there's something wrong with your face."

I'm on prednisone and my moon face is starting to show and I'm very self conscious about it. And with my clients, they know what they are saying, they just sometimes don't do social situations well, so in a slight way, she couldn't help it, but at the same time, ouch. Thank you for striking that soft spot, I'm going to put this box of cheez-its down now.

I tried to explain that I was on a medication and that it was a side effect, but I don't talk to my clients about my crohn's obviously because I'm here to help them, so she just answered with "Oh well that seems wrong you should get that fixed"

Deep breaths at work tonight... deep deep breaths...

Wow I can only imagine what you are having to deal with in that line of work. I use to do juvenile corrections and when the state mental hospital closed down they sent the criminally insane kids to us and we did not have the training to deal with them.

I know exactly what you mean about how they can say some of the most un-thoughtful things and you have to wonder if they know what they are saying or not.

My hair was really short then and I use to get a lot crude jokes about looking like man.

All I can say is close your eyes, count to ten, and pray that your shift ends real soon so you can go home.

Ooh, that is a rough place to work as well. I wish I could say it had been the end of my shift, but unfortunately that's what she said to me as I was walking in the door! haha Definitely just takes a minute of shutting the office door to regroup and contain myself and to also remind myself of the population I'm working with and move forward.
