I've been hospitalized twice this month, and can't get GI to pick up the pace. I finally saw the 'Crohn's specialist', and he wants to do another colonoscopy/egd to assess severity in order to cater a treatment plan. New place, new doctors, all of the same tests. My CT in August showed marked thickening/inflammation of the TI, so one would think that would be a decent motivating factor along with the two hospitalizations, but apparently not. They couldn't schedule me the day of my visit, because I'm required to go in for anesthesia assessment before they can give me a slot. When I went to anesthesia, they said they can't do my assessment until I have a procedure date. What the? I headed back to the GI clinic and harassed (politely, of course ) the people at the front desk, but they said they don't handle the procedure scheduling - a nurse will call me with a date/time. I explained the situation and all I got was a 'sorry, we can't help you'. Ugh.
I've been on Lomotil since I was discharged from the hospital a little over a week ago, and though it has made a small dent in frequency, we're still talking about some seriously bad bloody butt juju. My internist upped my dose to 4x a day to see if we can get me a little closer to the realm of normal. Forgive me for being a little skeptical. She also tried to prescribe Bentyl on top of it, but it seems the Bentyl and Lomotil combo is like crossing the streams. Is it odd that Lomotil isn't working? I somehow thought it was the magical fix. For pain, I'm on Tramadol again. It worked relatively well the last time, but the withdrawal is something else. I'm not looking forward to it again, given that this will be a very temporary solution.
Why do they torture? I've never had issues like this with any of my other specialists. All of the gut dudes I've encountered have quite an inhumane way of operating. On the plus side, if I end up in the hospital again before I get my scope date, maybe they'll do it while I'm inpatient so I don't have to deal with finding someone to drive me there. All of this waiting is driving me crazy.:yfrown:
Any advice on how to get timely care from the extra-terrestrials who call themselves Gastroenterologists? No offense to the human GI doctors out there, I just have yet to meet one.
