Hi my 12y son is showing symptoms of crohns like his dad (who has agressive form). Seen a specialist but not had colonoscopy yet but was told to take movicol for 2 weeks to flush his system? Not sure why then on loperamide to control bowels. He has been taking movicol for a week now and his bowel movements have done the opposite- for first time in months he is only going poo once a day? I'm confused as this stuff was suppose to flush him out and now I'm beginning to worry he might have a blockage or something. Has anyone else experienced this issue? If so any advice. Thanks

Not much advice, sorry, it does seem a strange thing to try. What symptoms? I think while waiting for tests, it's usually recommended to try a simpler diet: low fiber, lactose free to see if that helps. Could also try Ensure for low-weight, add a multivitamin, no ibuprofen.

Movicol takes at least three days to start to work .
Any dose changes sooner than three days is an issues
Ds has been on the us version miralax for 5-6 years daily .
It does not cause you to have more biwel movement if you are only taking between 1/2-1 capful a day . Ds typically has one to two bm a day when on it.
Movicol is an osmotic not a laxative .
It draws water in the stool so they stay softer and easier to pass .
If your child is taking more than 2 caps a day then you would expect more bm.
Sometimes Gi thinks everything including abdominal pain is "just constipation pain " even if the kiddo is not constipated ( having at least one bm every three days or soft bm)
So I assume your Gi was trying to rule that out .

Hugs

My kiddo is 12 and was dx at age 7.
He has constipation as part of his crohns
