London,
Hello all, I hope you can help me with my questions and let me know if what I experienced is normal.

I had buckets of fluid before the MRI, the also added a pint or so of a thicker Aniceed tasting formula to drink. I consumed this, they then put a needle in my arm and during the procedure the injected Buscopan and the contrast.

The MRI went well, although immediatley after I had blurred vision for quite some time although the biy I'm concerned about is I could not urinate even though my bladder was full (I read this can happen in people with prostate disease? I didn't think I had this.), this lasted a good 3-4 hours.

I had aggressive diarrhea from 2pm onwards, all through the night and still have it now (the following morning). Is this normal.

Can anyone shed any light on this for me please, should I be concerned?

Thanks to all.

I would hazard a guess that the inability to urinate was from the Buscopan. Buscopan is an anti spasmodic that relaxes the bowel muscles, maybe in your case it also relaxed the bladder muscles?

The diarrhoea is probably from the contrast. I remember (and a lot of others on here have had this too) after my CT which I had 2 pints of aniseedy liquid, I was upstairs on the ward, realised I needed the toilet, and suddenly the cramps just hit. I had to stand stock still in the middle of the ward clenching with all my might so it didn't just come out there and then!

Hopefully you will settle down once the fluids, contrast and Buscopan are completely out of your system. I would maybe try sticking to a plain diet for a little while, if you can tolerate high fibre foods then they can help to bulk out your stools and make them a little more normal. If you can't tolerate fibre, then BRAT (bananas, rice, applesauce, toast) is supposed to help with the runs.

Thanks Rebecca, I found the endoscopy unpleasent, although I expected the MRI to be rather simple and non intrusive, these procedures are not pleasent are they.. Oh well looking on the bringht side I have Colonoscopy next week.. whoppeee

heyy,

I had this exact same procedure a couple of weeks back. I did have diarrhoea for a while afterwards, But i think that was just the drink think that I had. And i also had the buscopan stuff, I think it is alright whats happening to you, so don't worry! Hope the results are good, and good luck with the colonoscopy :)

Hey . . . .
I think your reactions are pretty much normal. I had diarrhoea-this is not one of my normal symptoms, but I was also vomiting . . . they told me that was a side effect of the buscopan. Hope you feel better real soon!
