Hi all,
Just a short note to let you know to be aware of how easy it is to catch MRSA (Methicillian resistant staphilococcous aureous, sorry if I didn't spell it correctly). If you frequently visit the hospital, clinical setting, frequent gyms or schools, be very aware that your immune system is lowered. I am in the military, and caught MRSA probably from the gym setting on base. It started as what appeared as a small pimple on my left buttocks, but 3 days later was a large painful area. I had to go to the Emergency Room where they surgically opened it, and had to go on antibiotics and have the wound packed for 5 weeks. The first set of antibiotics didn't work as I found out after the culture and sensativity came back that I was resistant to them and finally got on Bactrim (Septra) before it started clearing it up. I know there are many things we have to be aware of, but this one can be dangerous if not caught quickly. Otherwise, I seem to be having great improvement on Humira after a failed round with Remicaide. Just one of those things. All the best!

Thanks Teresa! Yes, you just have to love these meds good and bad. I have always said, if it can happen, it will happen to me, lol. The MRSA was literally a pain in the @ss, but at least my belly felt better :)

MRSA in gym settings has been in the news lately, but it's not one of those things we think about, for sure. Hope it goes away and stays gone. It's a heck of a bug.

I recently got another infection which happened to be MRSA with a cyst in my armpit. What worries me the most is when I started the Humira again I had been off of it for about 2 years because I had reoccurring mastitis that just had a plain ol' staph infection. I had been off of it prior to that for about a year because I became pregnant while on BC and antibiotics. When I started the Humira again after I gave birth I wasn't told the seriousness of having the breast problem and it got so bad I was in the hospital for 2 weeks. I needed two surgeries to fix it. Afterwards I started it again in early 2011 because they wanted to make sure the mastitis was gone. WELL when I started it again I had a very painful lump in my armpit, and I went straight to the hospital when my skin started coming off. I had this problem with the mastitis and I was very afraid that my lymph nodes were infected from still having some staph gunk come out my breasts... sorry, but it's true. I am just really afraid of having more problems with the Humira but I haven't had many meds that work for me :( and the GI wants to see if I have elevated levels of anything in my blood and other samples.

I want to know if anyone else has had these problems. I wasn't around many people and when I was in the hospital last I was in my own room and I was by myself in a quarantine type of situation because when I was on TPN (total parental nutrition) I contracted VRE and Candida Glabrata in my PICC line. So every time I have to be in the hospital, I am alone.

Anyone else with this problem?

Hi all. This is my first post. I just saw this thread about MRSA. I got MRSA-HA 3 years ago while I was getting Remicade infusions. I have MRSA flare ups on a fairly regular basis. It's exhausting! In the mean time I have also had my 6th recurrence of Crohn's and hoping to avoid a 6th resection. I am just coming to the end of another bout with MRSA and hope to start on Humira once it is cleared up. Remicade was actually the only med that actually worked for me. On to the next! ❤
