Hi guys,

I had my perianal abscess drained last month ago. It was between the testicles and the anus. Medication includes only A - Z multivitamin tablets. I am also doing a Sitz bath once daily.

However, after the first week of draining the pus there is mucus draining from the abscess. It isn't much, but enough to wet my briefs. Also, I bled a few drops twice while passing stools. The blood isn't in the stools itself and there is no pain. I noticed it only after I felt something rolling down my skin.

I am confused, is this mucus supposed to drain and is the abscess supposed to bleed?

Hi hbaaz,

When you say mucous, what colour is it and how thick?

It wouldn't be unusual for a wound to bleed like that when it has pressure applied to from the rectum as you are creating a degree of trauma. As it continues to heal that will stop.

It is very thick. It mostly sticks to the sides of the wound and stays there until I do a sitz bath. It has a whitish color to it and behaves like nose mucus.

Thanks.
