I had colostomy about 9 months ago, is it normal to still have pinkish mucus, think it is a touch of blood but not sure.

Hi. Have you noticed anything different with the stoma? Different colour, bumps, small cuts? Do you have an stoma nurse you can call.

My stoma bleeds a lot, so I usually have pinkish mucous. But were you talking about mucous from the stoma or from your rectum (if you still have it)? I occasionally get blood in my mucous from my stump as well...the doctor said not to worry about it as long as it's not copious amounts.

Hi DJW and Nyx, sorry I should have been more specific, it is from my rectum. I have had mucus since a month or two after surgery 4-5 days a week but sometimes 3 or more times a day. It has always had a touch of pink/ blood in it.

Thanks

I wouldn't worry about it...I have mucous all the time too. If you get a gush of blood (more than just a trace) I'd worry.

Do any of you ever have trouble holding it in? My son has had 2 times that he had an accident. For his age this is devastating for him. He kinda worries about it now

Yes. I was in my late teens. The nurse suggested using a tampon. Needless to say that didn't go over well at all. I did have to use a pad. So embarrassing. So is a leak. It was the lesser of two evils.

Did it get better? Or pads the whole time? I can't imagine on top of everything else he has to endure, suggesting a pad to him!!

I've had my stoma for 4 1/2 years and I always have mucous..I think everyone's different though.

I knew my ileostomy would be permanent. Once it was removed everything was fine.

The crohns had returned in the rectal stump and I was putting out a lot of mucus. I also had fistulas that drained mucus.

Sometimes I have an urgency to go and can feel abut unwell before going. Such a shame for your son Brian's mom. Hard enough at my age never mind a teenager. I think fatty foods make it worse, not sure though.
Thanks for the replies.
