Well, I had given my story a while back and since the 24th of Feb. we have been battling a UC flare. He went on 30 mg of prednisone. His Remicade infusion was on the 1st, the 2nd it looked like we didnt do anything to help control it. On friday the 2nd he went to 60mg prednisone, liquid diet, Asacol 1600 daily and Canasa. Monday he went to hospital and put on 60mg of IV solumedrol and fluids. His GI scoped him on Wed and found that it was all the way through his large intestines. GI was disapointed. I freaked. He really didnt expect that it would be llike that. He is at the top of his meds. Remicade every 3 weeks and prednisone 60mg didnt seem to be helping this time although it was better cuz he could get to the appendix. GI team got together, with Peeds rheumy and surgeons to discuss Bruces case. Colostomy with 2nd surgery following to reconnect. Over the week he was slowly put back on soft foods and has been tapering off the prednisone(IV). Today was the 1st day on oral prednisone at 40mg. We will drop over the course of a few weeks, if its possible due to the surgeon wanting him as low as he can get without possible flare. Bruces stomach still hurts about an 8 b4 he poops then its a constant 6 throughout the day. Surgery is scheduled for Tuesday if he isnt able to handle the taper. If he can then its a couple of weeks. The GI docs think his arthritis will go away which is a rainbow after a monsoon. Bruce ready for surgery, cuz he knows it will make him feel better. Me...sad, scared and proud of him, he will take anything on. Its a 5 hour operation, which is scary, but Im at a Childrens hospital and they are truly wonderful and hes in good hands. Bruce should come home tomorrow if he doesnt have an increase in bowel movements and he doing well on the taper. I have so much more to write but i feel like i keep going round in a circle, only getting half done on all I do. Starting one thing stopping and starting something else.:stinks::facepalm:

Oh my......what a difficult and heartbreaking time for you all.

I hope the surgery gives Bruce the relief he so much deserves, I'm sure it will. These kids are so tough and resilient, we wish they didn't have to be like that but boy oh boy it sure does make you proud and your boy is certainly one to be proud of.

Good luck and I hope Bruce is able to make home for a few days, bless him...

Wow, what a tough kid. I hope things worked out ok. I had similar surgery 15 years ago now but I was about ~25 dealing with it. I had wonderful success with it and really hope the same for Bruce.
