Does this EVER get easier? My boyfriend was just rushed to the ER because he was in so much pain. He has had a flare up for the past 4 days. I feel so helpless... I am 1,000 miles away from him and he is hurting so bad! I don't know what to do, what to expect... I'm still so new to this! Has anyone ever been rushed to the hospital, and if so what was the cause? I am looking for advice, helpful information, anything.. I'm an emotional wreck right now. :(

I was rushed there due to a partial obstruction. I was in pain and vomiting. Had to stay there for a week after.

Someone will keep in touch with you to let you know what's going on and if you don't hear anything for a while you can call around to find out what hospital he's at and what his condition is. They may give you information if you claim to be his fiance or you could get on a direct line and talk to him as the hospital near me has phones above the beds where people can talk to the the patients and families inside the ER (the receptionist patches you through).

I hope he'll he alright. Try to relax and wait near the phone and don't be too hasty by jumping on a plane without knowing what's going on just yet.

2 months ago I was out of town for job training and had to go to the ER for severe abdominal pain also. It was very scary for me because I had been sick for a couple of months and still had no idea what was wrong with me...of course they still were unable to figure it out at that time....My partner was 500 miles away at home and felt much the same way you feel. She called me several times and kept updated and kept asking if I wanted her to jump in a car. Part of me really did but I decided to have her wait out the test results. As it turned out, they gave me pain meds and got me comfortable. A friend took me back to the hotel. The next day I was on a plane home. Glad my partner didn't drive all the way...I would have been more worried about her traveling in that frame of mind. Best to wait it out and see what the doc has to say. Just being avl on the phone will be and knowing you care so much will be the most support for him. Good luck and I hope all goes well.

None of his friends or family are contacting you? Is he awake yet? He'll be able to call you maybe the day after or two days after surgery depending on how he's doing. Maybe the word you meant was fistula? Could have been uncontrolled bleeding, a perforation or an obstruction etc that made him need immediate surgery.

I've had a resection but mine got infected (which is not the norm). So it took me about 2 months to fully recover. But without an infection they usually let you out of the hospital within 5-7 days (gotta pass gas first) to mend on your own at home (that also depends on the type of surgery like laparoscopic, hand assist, or open surgery). I've been in remission for 13 years because of my resection so I hope the same goes for him. :)

I was contacted by his family just recently. He seems to be doing well and your news about your remission has given a great amount of hope! I'm so glad that you are in remission! And thank you for all your help! I truly appreciate your support! :ysmile:
