I have found since I have discovered crohn's that my libido has dropped. It is hard for a 27 year old man to explain to his wife that while she is sexy I just don't have enough energy to have sex. When I come home after work I am exhausted and every joint hurts and my energy level plumits. Anybody else have this problem?

At 27 I did not have that problem, but it certainly depends on the severity of the disease.

Can you take a short nap when you get home? It works wonders for me.

My boyfriend and I are both 28 and we both have that problem from time to time. I'm the one with Crohns but he has his own ailments. We try to do what we can when we can but the key is to stay understanding of why there's a lack of interest or ability. Sometimes we try positions that allow the other person to rest while the other does all the work. Sadly this is a very common problem among us no mater what your age is.

I think that this happens with a lot of us on the forum. I used to constantly chase my wife around the house-as the libido and the chemistry between us was pretty impressive. Lots has slowed down as we both face chronic health conditions but we do the best we can. There are different ways to show affection as you know, even a hug or holding hands can be tremendous moment of bonding and deepening intimacy. Don't get me wrong I miss when we play Barry White and have the one to one time together.

Aw there's loads of other stuff you can do!!
eg, you just lie there, she can do all the work, as in on top, and it's better for her anyway!! ha ha

I never had a problem until my most recent flare-up. In my case, I think it was a combination of depression and lack of energy.

I had lost about 50lbs and was severely anemic. I knew about the weight loss, but not the anemia, and I think that sapped a lot more energy than I realized.

I took medication for the depression, but then its unfortunate side effect kicked in and I had the libido but lacked the ability to follow through.

My girlfriend was incredibly understanding throughout but also understandably frustrated.

If you've eliminated any physical causes, you may want to get checked for depression. It really can sneak up on you. I went undiagnosed for years because it was relatively mild. No suicidal thoughts or anything, just a general lack of motivation and energy.

Good luck.

Changing the time of day is a good idea. Take a nap and go for afternoons or before dinner. Weekends and mornings are great too. Use what ever you need to shift the mind in to the right gear to enjoy the moment. Sex should be fun. Maybe get her a toy to play with? Drugs we are on do play there part but I am sure its possible still enjoy a good sex life.

Yup lost mine. Plus my husband is scared he may hurt me because I am in so much pain all the time. Where we have become less physically intimate we have become more emotionally intimate. I think this is extrememly important as some people associate the physical with love. you know she may be thinking if he doesn't want to have sex he just doesn't love me anymore. To keep your relationship strong you need to find different ways to let her know you love her just as much. It has worked for my husband and I. I would say our bond is much stronger now than before.

Low "T" like Crohns, is becoming more and more understood as studies on it have increased. It used to be thought of as an old man's disease, but such is not the case anymore. It is now believed that testosterone in men starts to decline after they reach their mid twenties. The jury is still out as to whether or not Crohn's has anything to do with it, but more and more are beginning to believe that there is a connection.
Testosterone replacement comes in different forms. Patches, gels, and injections are the most common. I've tried them all. Injections work the best for me. I give myself a 1 ml. dose of testosterone cypionate every 2 weeks.
It's packaged in a 10 ml. bottle which lasts 20 weeks. My co-pay is $50.00 US which is what 1 mos. supply of the gel cost me. My skin didn't absorb the patch and gel, hence the need for the injections. As far as I'm concerned, it's money well spent.
Hope this helps.

Thank you all for your frank replies. I will try your suggestions. Like I say my mind is willing but my body not so much.
