Hello,

I have been waiting to have a small bowel resection since the start of January, and on the 15th of March I received a phone call saying that I could be scheduled in at 11am on the 21st of March. At about 7:30am on the 21st I got another phone call saying that the operation could not go ahead because the surgeon was ill (lol) and that it would be rescheduled for as soon as possible.

A week has now gone by and I haven't heard anything, do you think it is worth phoning the hospital? Or should I just keep waiting :sign0085:

I would probably just wait, but I'm older and more patient. haha. Call if it's worrying you. I'm sure they understand.

I would have to call. Waiting would make me crazy. I'm sure that they are trying to reschedule all of the cancelled appointments, but you need to watch out for yourself!

I just phoned them up and got a new date, 16th of April

Hi folks, I had my operation earlier today (technically yesterday now hehe) and everything went really well. I had around 1ft of small intestine removed which was causing trouble with my bladder and was sticking to a section of large intestine. The whole proceedure took around six hours.

I had two enemas shortly before surgery and had an epidural put in as well, I woke up with a stomach drain, catheter and a surprise stoma - the surgery turned out to be keyhole which was a pleasant surprise as I was told to expect an open operation, and I am in much less discomfort than I imagined I would be! To be honest aside from the soreness this is the best I've felt in a year!

Overall the experience was really good (I don't think good is the right word but I'm sure you get what I mean) the aftercare seems to be fantastic and I've already started on liquids and I am currently playing around on my phone as it's the only thing with internet access!

That's great you are already feeling so well! I've also been pretty shocked by how well I have felt since the surgery and everyday gets a little better! Hope your recovery is similar!
