My story and living with crohns

Hi my name is Zoe i am 21 now an i was diagnosed with crohns at the age of 14, before i was diagnosed i was living with a crazy amount of pain each day i had terrible stomach pains and was constantly going to the toilet an physically exsausted, it took them a while to finnaly diagnose me after colonoscopys and endoscopys were done, when i was finally diagnosed they started me on a steriod called prednisilone which worked but it was horrible stuff, when it finally settled down they started me on medication called azathioprine which also worked well, i was seein specialists every month for years then around the age of 16, 17 every thing felt great i felt healthy happy and didnt have anymore pain an stopped taking medication, for about 3 years i was feeling fine a little tired at times but felt good, this was with out any medication, then a couple weeks ago it all turned around i was in constant pain stabbing an cramping pains in my stomach but the worst was back pain i walked with it for a couple weeks till about a week ago i just couldnt sleep anymore and the pain got un bearable!! we rushed to hospital at 5am in the morning i regret waiting this long, they did a crazy amount of blood tests an my inflammatory markers which were ment to be pretty low less then 50 i think were up to 320!!! which was why i was in so much pain i had never had a flare up like this before so it scared me an i stayed in hospital for 5days on cortizone injections and antibiotics it was def a scary experience, after bein on the cortizone i was feeling much better still tired but pain was gone they then took me of the injection an started me on a heavy doze of steriods and azathioprine an antibiotics, so far its been goin ok not the best still get pains an physically exsausted an also started feeling down about everything cant be bothered doing anything an find nothing exciting or interesting any more, an constantly worrrying about it coming back an going thru it all again, i been wanting to find people who live near me with the same condition that i can talk to who also understand what its like living with crohns i never knew much about it but now i do its a horrible thing to live with an can take over your life!!

Hi Zoe and welcome! I am sorry your Crohn's is acting up again. Though it may not seem necessary, it is very important to remain on your meds even when you feel well to prevent flare ups. I sure hope you can get your Crohn's under control soon and start feeling better.

Also, though it can be easy to get down when you feel sick, try your best to hang in there. You will have bad days, but you will have good days, too. I try to just take it day by day. If today isn't so good, I just think/hope that tomorrow will be better. :biggrin:

Hi awbrey thanks im tryin hard to hang in there i have lots of great support from my family an friends, Hey Jill i have learnt from my mistake of stopping medication an it definatelly wont happen again not after this experience!!! im tryin to take it day by day an its gettin better each day but yer some days are def harder then others!!!!

I am happy to hear the days are getting better - what wonderful news! Of course, there you will have some tough days, but hopefully they will become few and far between!

Hi Zoe and welcome! Wow, that was one long sentence!

Glad to hear things are getting better each day. And soooo glad you have a good support system - it's very important with this disease, in my opinion, it's one of the best things for a Crohnie!

Still, they can't understand everything you are going thru and that's where we come in... no matter what's going on with your Crohns, chances are there is at least one person who has been thru exactlly the same thing!

Hi Zoe. welcome. the peeps in the group are a wonderful support system. sorry to hear that your feeling down. my son the crohnnie ( amy's word that im learning lol ) guy in our house is 20 and feels down all the time. very hard to get a smile out of his beautiful face. he just got out of hospital also. wishing you a better tomorrow hun.

My little story

I was diagnosed with crohns just before my 19th birthday, and I am now 26.
I had been suffering for months with acute pain, vomiting, constant need for the toilet and no energy.

I was going through a few things at the time and thought i'd get better like i always did. My mum got really worried that I had an eating disorder, so I went to the Dr to make her feel better.

Was sent for tests that day and was told it's crohns. My mum also was diagnosed when she was 19 but never suffered as badly - luckily.

I have been on all types of meds including; prednisolone, imuran, salazopyrin, stuff I can't remember the name of, methotrexate injection and tablets, metronidozole etc. I am currently having infusion of remicade/infliximab every 8 weeks, and that is working well, but can tell when the 8 weeks is up.

My crohns has changed over the years and has gone from ulcers to fistulas. Each time it flres up it's different. I could go on for ages with how much I have gone through with crohns, as most of you could do too.

I don't know why I haven't joined a forum earlier. It does sound nice to be able share and hear from others who can understand.

The worst thing about having crohns for me is how it affects my thoughts and mental state. Also working full time is pretty hard.

I live in Morphett Vale, so not too far from you.

I can definately relate with you, as I have had flare ups and remission. It can really change your life with no warning.

I hope yours is settling down now.

hey bexta wow thats pretty close by im living at moana now, yer it did change my life was a pretty scary experience all is goin ok at the moment lots off medication but things are slowly gettin better still not 100% there but i guess it will only take time thanks for the reply!!
