woodland hills,
Hi there, my name is Niki and I was diagnosed with Crohn's in 2005 after 9 months of not knowing what it was. I am 16 years old and right now on prednisone and Imuran since I had my worse flare up in the last couple months. But I am doing better now... sort of... except for the horrible headaches, any solutions?... I was out of school for 2 months and now I'm glad to be back... Looking forward to meeting people from this site and hearing you advise
Thanks, niki :)

Hi Niki

Welcome! Nice to meet you! It's rubbish being so young and having to deal with a chronic disease! I hope you have a good supportive family!

Try keeping well hydrated for your headaches; plenty of water, not so much fizzy drinks! If they're problematic or you're concerned you should ALWAYS see your doctor!! The Dr is there to help you and wants to help you and will want to know everything that's going on with your treatment. :)

xxx

Hi Niki! I'm a Nikki too! I also missed a lot of school at your age, and it can be very hard to deal with. I'm 28 now, and although I still have Crohns and all of the problems that come with it, I have a very good life. Much better than the one I envisioned for myself as a sick teenager!

I'm glad you are doing better, but i am sorry you are suffering from headaches. Looks like lulu had some ideas for you, and hopefully you will get a few more. Looking forward to seeing you around the forum!

Thank you both so much for the support :)
yes I am drinking planty of water all day long but it doesn't seem to help that much... but I will keep drinking
and yes I have a very supportive family I can't even tell you how much, i am very lucky to have them
Looking forward to seeing you around the forum!

Hi Niki, when I was diagnosed after being very sick a couple of years ago and was going through that stage of being very upset and unhappy, I talked to a friend who was 57 and had the disease since he was 17.

He has had multiple surgeries and is now on humira, but told me that in the 40 years of his disease he has never not done anything he wanted to do - travel, family, work.

It made me feel much better and I accepted that I had the disease and would deal with it with the help of family and doctors.

I'm also on Imuran but don't have a problem with headaches...I hated prednisone, it made me depressed.

Hi Nikki,
Stay away from smoke. I found it accelerated my headaches..:mad2:

Keep a diary from now on if you do not already. It is gr8 reference in the future. :thumright:

:getwell:

Thanks for the advice :)
Ya I try to stay a way from paint, smoke, or anything strong like that...

I'm currently tapering the prednisone and think it also might be causing the headaces... but I took prednisone before and it also made me have headaches but never like this....

jthommo Thanks for the support.... thankfully the prednisone did not cause any depression or mood swings for me :)

and yes I agree you face that you have something and just deal with it and don't let it get in the way of the things you want to do and accomplish (although sometimes it may be hard and you have to struggle a little more...)
