Hi all,
I'm glad I found this forum, its so good to be able to share information with others who are in the same situation.
My story started in 2007 when I was diagnosed with UC (after 3 long weeks of various Drs trying to convince me I had food poisoning). Luckily I found the most wonderful GI who I believe has saved me (both physically and emotionally). So far I seem to have flare ups every 6 months... which come back under control within days with taking prednisolone. I'm currently taking colazide to keep me in remission but if it doesn't last long then my GI wants to put me on mercaptopurine. But we are holding off on this as we are trying for another baby.
Can I just ask if anyone else has heard of a link between IBD and a higher risk of blood clots? The reason I ask is that after the birth of my first child, I had a really bad flare then I also developed a DVT in my leg which travelled to my lungs. When I saw a haemotologist for this, he said my UC which causes increased inflammation levels when flared was part of the reason I developed a clot. It was all very scary but I try and keep myself well informed and hopefully won't ever go through that again.
Thanks for taking the time to get to know me, I can see myself coming on here a lot reading through everyones stories.
