Hi I am Megan. I was diagnosed with Crohn's in April 2007, after 10+ years of trying to find out what was wrong with me, when my mother dragged me to the emergency room and refused to leave until someone gave me something for my pain . That morning after some tests I had emergency surgery. Since then I still have "issues" but nothing like before. My quality of life has totally improved.
I have registered on this Crohn's forum to hopefully meet new friends. I am 29 from Columbus, Ohio.

Welcome Megan! I'm sorry it took so long to be diagnosed. It's a bummer you had to have emergency surgery, but I am happy that it's helped out your quality of life!

Hi Megan and welcome! I am glad you finally got some answers, though it took you 10 years. What meds are you taking that have helped you to get well?

I am sure you'll meet a lot of friends on here! It is great to talk with others who know exactly what you are going through. I know you'll find the forum as beneficial as I have.

I currently take Pentasa and Nexium. I have tried a few others (Lialda, Asacal, some generic, Noscobal - I miss it gave me a bit of a pick me up)

After so many years of feeling miserable I had that surgery where they removed the blockage and area with active Crohns (about 10 inches or so around the ilium) and now I feel like I am cured. Although I know I am not and still have bathroom issues and the occasional stomach pain but nothing like before. My doctor ha suggested Cimzia but I am not ok with the side effects that could come with it or the cost. So for now I am sticking with the Pentasa. I have my 6 month check up with the GI in August.

Are you going to have a scope to check for active Crohn's in August? Because if you still have active Crohn's, you may need to consider stepping up your meds. I know some of the possible side effects of some of the treatments are scary, but untreated active Crohn's causes much more problems.

But, of course, I sure hope you don't have any active Crohn's and you can stick to your current treatment plan. I hope all goes well with your upcoming appointment.

I had a colonoscopy in January and I think my doc said I didn't show much of a change since my last one. I was doped up so don't totally remember what he said. I think this appointment is just more or less a follow up with blood work and to discuss my headaches. Been having a decent amount of headaches that last for days since I got off the B-12 nasal spray but my b-12 numbers were ok.. Who knows... But as for the meds my doc said he was ok with leaving them alone as long as I don't have much active crohns going on. If I show too much of a change then we will have a bigger discussion I am sure. My last few appointments have been about vitamins, yogurt and about me working out and losing weight. After my surgery I gained quite a bit and really quick. Havn't exactly got motivated to loss weight. So now I have a month to drop some weight so I don't have to hear about that again LOL.
