Hi everyone Iv just joined today iv had Crohn's from i was 12 and had an illeostomy put in straight away. Im just out of hopsital 4 days after having a protectomy on the 12th of this month. Im just looking a little advice from someone who has went through this as iv been left very much in the dark as what to expect! I have had constant discharge from iv had my surgery im getting sharp shooting pains and no-one has cleaned or told me when or what to use to clean my wound at my bottom. Im in alot of pain and worried that this will not heal any help / advice will be greatly appreciated. Thanks in advance :)

My DD had a Proctocolectomy a year and a half ago. We just always used warm water to clean her. So long as there are no obviously sutures I would imagine you could use whatever you usually use as soap by now. The pain you are having is probably internal the rectum removal to be exact. It takes time and will be sore for a while. Donut pillows help when sitting. I know this sounds crazy but for my DD whom is much younger (5) she stays pretty active, and it is encouraged by her doctors because it helps stop adhesions from forming. So walking is a good thing to do even though I am quite sure you don't want to. I hope you start feeling better really soon and know you are not alone. I will keep you in my thoughts and be checking back in on you.

Thanks so much. Awk only 5 I think thats the youngest iv heard of having the whole lot done I'll keep yous in my thoughts also. Id have replied sooner only I decided to grow a fistula and ended up with infection in my pelvis so iv just had a wee op to get rid of it all. Iv been left with an opened wound now for a while so hopefully after this it will ease. Oh i cannot wait to be getting active again. Thank you so much for the reply and advice your daughter sounds like such a wee fighter :)
