I am looking for some advice on what I can try to 'encourage' my husband to eat. He has pretty much given up on eating. We have finally being told that he is being put on a waiting list for either a strictureplasty or a resection because of three concurrent ileal strictures. We have no idea how long until the operation.
He has tried to contact his IBD nurse for advice but they are being as unhelpful as ever and ignoring the email and telephone voice messages.
He is sleeping nearly all of the time. When he is not at work he is sleeping. The weekends are spend sleeping. As far as food goes he will buy a high calorie McDonalds breakfast every morning before work but this will take the majority of the day to eat and even then will often not be finished. He may have a crumpet later in the day but that will be all. He had been drinking slim fast shakes but his GP has advised against these because of the large volume of thick liquid being passed through his strictures all in one go. He has been told to graze through out the day. The thing is he is asleep therefore not eating and when he is awake he is in so much pain he has no appetite for food. The pain meds he has been given has also given him a metallic taste in his mouth which is again putting him off foods. He has lost two stones in the last few weeks.
So what on earth can I get him to eat?! I need low volume (nothing like soups - too painful) but high calorie which can just be eaten there and then before exhaustion takes over again and he returns to bed.
I have suggested pureeing food or borrowing some of my nephews baby food but got a rather disgusted response from him!
Help please!
