Hey everyone, my doctor just called today to let me know that my biopsy results were negative for both crohn's and UC. I had a colonoscopy/ upper three weeks ago and they found some gastro erythema in my esophogus/ stomach, along with granualized mucosa in my cecum. The second one was more worrying as a quick google search only brings up results related to IBD. I was just wondering if I can take the biospy results as being conclusive or is there still a chance that I still have UC/ Crohns or will develop it later

Yep, more times than I can rememeber. They have to get it at the right spot, it can be missed and therefore a negative result. Most docs take multiple biopsies and still have missed. I think the Crohn's or Colitis plays hide and seek lol. Kind of like when you have a toothache and you go to the dentist, it dont hurt any more?

Many tests come back inconclusive, it took a year of tests for my dx. What country are you in Tom? Some one from your area could advise you or help.

Thanks for the quick reply Pen! I live in the U.S. I know i had at least 2 biopsies taken in different areas, both came back negative. I was more wondering if the negative granular mucosa meant it was unrelated to crohn's or UC. My Dr said he was very confident it wasn't IBD and that the lab work confirmed it and noted it in their report. I'm just trying to put all of this behind me and deal with my IBS...

Hey Tom,

If granular and granuloma are similar or one in the same then it is possible to have CD with negative biopsies.

My son's colonoscopy biopsies weren't conclusive for CD because they lacked granuloma's. A few months later he had a resection and extensive pathology still stated there was no convincing evidence of Crohn's due to the lack of granulomas. He does have CD though.

Hi Tom. I have had several scopes and numerous biopsies (10+ for each scope), and they have all been negative. However, I am quite sure I do in fact have Crohn's, as it best explains my symptoms.

Unfortunately, it can take years of being in limbo before getting a diagnosis.
