negative biopsy?

hi guys,

i am totally confused at the moment because when i had my colonoscopy done, the surgeon said i had an inflamed illium, so he sent me for ct,
he said he was certain i was suffering from crohns with my symptom, which were mild in comparrison to a lot of you here, anyway the ct showed nothing significant, and the biopsy came back normal small bowel, "how can this happen if it is inflamed"? also i had another ct done yesterday as he said the drink that i had never reached the illium which is the part they wanted to see, he still gave me entocort and told me to take them also dipentum, he said the hardest thing to do was to diagnose crohns but as my mum and sister have crohns i am in the spectrum, and wouldnt be surprised if i developed harsher symptoms later on down the line, i am awaiting the 2nd ct scan results, I dont know whether he is just picking up on the family thing, maybe if he didnt know about them would he come to the same conclusion, i dont know?:eek2: i do feel a bit better since starting the medication and also maybe i have caught this early, he wont refer me to GI untill he has hard evidence:( just wondering if any of you have the mild symptoms i have, as i know with my own family how sick and delibitaing this condition can get as they both have had bowl resections, and I feel kind of guilty even metioning that I might have it as I am not as sick as they are

thanks for listning,

sheila:)

Hey Shelia,

I think I am in a similiar boat to you. When the doctors did my colonscopy the saw an area of inflammation so took a lot of biopsies from that area and encouraged me to look at the screen so I could see for myself...looked weird. However, like you the biopsies came back not showing anything significant which confused me. I see my gastro specialist for the first time on Fri since I had all the tests, quite nervous. I hope you get answers soon.

hi Caz,

thanks for replying, what are your symptoms, are they very bad, did you have a ct scan, sorry for all the questions but i think this is all very confusing???????:ybatty:
I hope you get some answers, GOD were you awake for your colonoscopy??I was asleep, I dont think i would have liked to have been awake for it. The rectal polyp they removed came back ok, it was a ville (i think)!! im not very good with all the names of things:yrolleyes: but he said i was lucky to have it gone as they can turn nasty, also a year ago i had anal fissure, dont really know what this is, but the main thing i have is pain after i eat and having to get to the loo very quickly:( and a lot of bloating and pain at times but the meds seem to have calmed that down,

thanks again caz,

sheila

Hey Shelia,

Compared to a lot of people here my symptoms seem quite mild but they have affected my life drastically. I haven't been out socially for about 9 months with anyone aside from my family and bf as they understand the best. I have had 6 weeks off work now inc the last week as the pain has been too bad and I have been unable to eat much of anything. I have to travel 2 hrs to get to and from work everyday and this appears to take too much out of me. I had lost weight, 5 bouts of bleeding, severe abdominal pain, exhaustion, bloating, pain after eating which doesn't go away after the loo, bouts of D (inc one horrible accident) and also bouts of C. See my GI(not sure if that is what we call them in the UK!!) tomorrow, not expecting a lot to be honest but I am going in armed with questions.

Good news about the ville, although tbh not sure what that is. What is the next step for you?
