new and having problems

Hi Thanks for having this site.. I was scoped a couple months ago, and was perscribed Salofalk 4000mg daily. 4 days on the pills I thought I got food poisoned or the flu (not flu season tho) Fever , diarrhea, vomiting. I stopped for 10 days, then 1/2 dose 4 pills, 6hrs later same symptoms only worse for 12 hours. I have not heard back from my Doc yet. My concern is what will he do now?? He said the Salofalk was mild!!!

I am not familar with that med sorry. I think you should keep calling your Dr's office and bugg him/her until they talk to you. I do know there are many other options out there. The very first med I was on was a sulfa based drug, and it made me so sick. Similar to what you are describing. I think many CD patients will have different meds at different times in their lives. Don't give up there are other meds out there to try. I would just keep calling my Doc until I got some anwsers. wish I could be more helpful

Greetings and welcome!

Salofalk is one of those drugs with a million names. You can find it referred to around here as Mesalamine, Asacol, Pentasa, Lialda, Apriso, or 5-ASA. You're welcome to check out our treatment forum for threads about it, start your own, or use the "Search" found at the top of this screen.

However, am I interpreting correctly that you were prescribed this drug months ago and as such haven't been on any meds for quite awhile because you haven't heard back from your doctor? If so, I would get a new doctor ASAP!

Again, welcome. I hope to see you around :)

Hi and welcome! I agree with David. If you haven't heard back from your doctor in months, it is time to kick him to the curb! That is unheard of!

Also, as David pointed out, there are many different medications in the same family as Salofalk. Some people do better on one than the other. So, you may need to experiment a little. But to be honest, it was not easy the first week or so that I took Lialda. I certainly felt that I got worse before I got better. Also, I started on a lower dose (2 pills once a day), and then bumped up (2 pills twice a day). Perhaps, you started at too high of a dose?
