Hello All. I was diagnosed with Crohns Disease Feb 22, 2012. Medication I am taking is Mezavant x4 pills a day. Before I was diagnosed with it, I had constant heavy bleeding for 2 years which started in 2010.

I went to my family Doctor back then and he suggested to see some specialist in the Downtown Core. He then checked me out and said that I had anistis (sp?). He then recommended some over the counter cream to use. I used it then it went away for like 4 months then the bleeding came back. Didn't really pay any attention to it cause it was on/off bleeding, so I let it bleed till then, which I know I should not have. I had not had a soild bowel movement for 2 years.

Then January 2012 the new year, everything went downhill from there. I hurt my back at work was off for 1 week. Then after my back healed, I developed 2 small kidney stones, which I had to pass them through. Then my Hemroid re-flared up and I had it removed, and at the same time I developed heavy bleeding which then I went to see my doctor again, and told him my story, which I finally had a Colonoscopy to see what was going on. I had the colonoscopy on the 22 of Feb, and as well as a blood test. My iron levels where horribly low, and then I was Diagnosed with Crohns Disease.

Now my problem I am having is that I get alot of bad headaches and still bloody discharges, or just many trips to the bathroom. Before I was diagnosed with Crohns I went to the bathroom like 15+ times a day so basically once an hr. Now since the diagnosis, I go like 6-7 times a day with small bloody dischage. Friday night I had to stay at the hospital overnight, because I had a really high fever. My body temperature went to 104.6 F. This morning I had dischaged 3 times its was small/heavy bleeding. So I dont know if I should be concerned or if i should take another trip to the hosptial again. any suggestions would be greatly appreciated.

Hello Broncin and welcome to the forum  When are you next due to see your doc? I assume you will be seeing a GI doc at the hospital? It sounds like frequency of trips to the loo is lessening which could be the meds starting to kick in but obviously there is a way to go. Would you say the headaches started around the time you started the tablets - I am wondering if you are suffering from a side effect potentially.

What was said about the high temp? I would say if you feel things are really bad or the temp returns then get back to a&e if you feel that it can wait then get onto your GP/contact the gastro dept at the hospital first thing tomorrow morning and get their opinion on this.

I do hope you feel better soon hun and keep us updated on how you get on.

Greetings and welcome, I'm really glad you've joined :)

Based upon everything you're describing, I don't think that the Mezavant alone is enough for you. It's more of a maintenance drug than anything. I agree with Angrybird, you need to get together with your GI and discuss this situation. What you're experiencing isn't right and this needs to get under control before it becomes worse.

I'd also suggest looking at our enteral nutrition forum and our diet forum for ideas on lifestyle and dietary changes (I'm a fan of the Specific Carbohydrate Diet and Paleolithic Diet). It's HARD to make these changes but you're at the point where it needs to happen.

We're here for you but take control my friend. Get this under control.

*hugs*

Thanks for the replies and suggestions and here is an update. Monday afternoon I had an appointment with my Dr. who did my colonoscopy. I told him that Mezavant wasn't really helping at all, but just less bathroom trips. I told him my symtoms that I am now getting Headaches, fatigue, Nausea, joint pain,night/day sweats, shakes (sometimes bad) and some kidney pains. He basically said that it was too early for the medication and need to give it time to see if their is any improvement and to come back in 2 weeks which would be the 21st of March. He then said if that doesn't help that i would be switched to steroids or surgery. Then we started talking about cancer and with my situation, I am at a high risk for colon cancer it because how badly it is inflamed and was bleeding for 2 years on/off and untreated and was explaing almost 3/4 of my colon is inflamed.

Forgot to mention this in my last post sorry about that. The high Temp was related to the medication, cause from what the doctors told me last friday at the hospital. I have had bad shakes since then sometimes bad at times. Never had that problem before, but doctors know about it, and said it had to to do with the fever i got. Said if it gets worse come back asap to hospital.
