Dx'ed 11 years, with hemicolectomy 12/1026/03. 3 recent surgeries, 1/2014, 6/2014, setons and 2nd fistulotomy 1/2015. Very painful, and difficulty in pain mgmt, including surgeons not sympathetic to/PK necessity. Currently on Delzicol, after bad reaction to Apriso, Lialda, and some other mesalamine-based meds. How do you spell expensive? Currently trying due to very low income and $300/month RX cost to get changed to Tier 1 from Tier 4 (Part D error by govt). Often discouraged about feeling so ill and weak. Reading about dietary problems associated with emulsifiers, like polysorbate 60 and 80, and others, which compromise immune system, along with food additives and dyes, which make foods "more palatable" but cause (or exacerbate) UC and other related illnesses. Unable to consume many foods, due to adverse reactions. Do a liquid diet during flares, then small amounts of jarred baby foods. Most foods currently problematic. Yesterday prescribed Cipro oral and Cleocin T topical for groin boil, altho contraindication for Cleocin w/crohn's, which was discovered while reading drug handout, and informing prescribing dermatologist office staff, who indicated topical was OK, as opposed to oral. Would like help with a FODMAP diet explanation, or food elimination diet which would help malabsorption and poor nutritional status. Just want to get well and have a quality of life again. It's been over a year now, and some days my 9mm looks tempting, altho i really don't believe in that solution.

Hi crohneemee and welcome to the forum! :D

I'm sorry to hear about your financial struggles, it's very common in the US unfortunately. :( Some medications have other payment options and sometimes doctors can provide free samples as well. Contacting the manufacturer can help with finding other payment options.

If you're interested in diets we have a section for them here: http://www.crohnsforum.com/forumdisplay.php?f=17

I understand your desire to give up but always remember that you're not alone. We're here for you anytime.

If you contact the manufacturer themselves, there are often discounts available. I currently pay nothing for my Cimzia. I am also a huge believer in coupons. I search the internet for the best deal-sometimes not using your insurance and, instead, using a coupon, saves you more.

As for the diet, I was given a copy by my GI and told to follow it. I can tell you, it is very restricting(especially for someone who already has dietary restrictions). Needless to say, that has sat on my dining room table for a few months.

Welcome to the community.

While I understand the 9mm solution statement, PLEASE seek care should you ever really start pondering that as a solution. There is so much available and in the pipeline for people with Crohn's that taking that way out would be an enormous mistake :(

*hugs*
