Hi I am Ziggy.

New to this site and forum.
Just to give a background to my crohns disease.
Diagnosed at 23 in 1985. Hospitised for 6 weeks with a stomach infection, anorexia (lost almost 3 stone in weight), anaemia, ovarian cyst. It took 8 weeks until diagnosis of crohns. Had never heard of this condition.
Immediately put on high dose steriods, Sulphazalisine. Immediate response to pain etc. Immediate rapid weight gain.
On steriods for at least three years on titrated doses. Moved on to Budesonide after 6 years as this was a relatively new drug to try.

By 2002 needed a bowel resection for acute bowel obstruction. Been in great remission with no meds up to Dec. 2011 then... needing iron infusions x 2, anaemic and hence now on Remicade for up to a year. Crohns is back !

Hey there Ziggy and welcome! I'm sorry to hear that your Crohn's Disease is back :( Is the Remicade helping?

With that resection, was it at the end of your ileum (the terminal ileum) that you had removed?

Again, it's great to have you here. I hope to see you around.

Hello Ziggy and :welcome: to the forum. Sorry to hear that the tum has acted up again. How long have you been on the Remi? Have you noticed an improvement in how you are feeling? If you have not already definetly check out the sub forum for this, especially the club thread - lots of guys and gals to chat with here about being on this med: http://www.crohnsforum.com/showthread.php?t=4544.

Thanks to all for your kind replies.

My resection was in my terminal ileum due to fibrosis and scarring due to years of inflammation, had at least 12 " bowel taken away.

Have been on the Remicade for since December, and finding it ok except it has made me put back on some weight ( I had previously lost nearly 6 stone in two years on a controlled diet as advised by the doctors - as I have a fibrosed liver (N.A.S.H.) caused by late onset diabetes - I am one of the percentage of people this happens to and I have just seen my Gastroenterologist and I asked if this could this cause this but shesaid I am overeating now because I am taking in nutrician again, but unfortunately I have been emotionally eating as well, as someome I know well has just died . Any way I have asked her if he Remicade is making me feel so hungy also !!
