Hi to you all,

Was told i had chronic crohns last december however ever i knew something was not right for years before.

Been given different drugs to take and the only I cannot handle is the steroid this just does my head in the mood swings the racing about and the weight thing is all too much.

I also have associated pain called bilateral sacroiillitus this kicks in with the crohns and thats me incapacitated for days. And the hospital say take more steroids Arrgggghhh.

The meds I am on are
Prednisolone
Pentasa
Azathioprine
Omeprazole
Zopiclone

What a mix I have stopped the steriods by choice as I would have ended IT, they are to fierce for me and to have them constantly I can't handle them and them me.

Been given drugs and no real advise other to suck it and see !!!!!

Hello Paul and welcome to the forum.

How are things at the moment with the tum and what dosage of the Aza are you on? The Pred can be a nasty beast to deal with but it can be dangerous to just stop this without a proper taper - what dosage were you on for this? Were you able to speak to your GI doc/nurse about the problems you were having with this? There is an alternative called Budesonide that can be prescribed that is worth asking about if you are able to get in contact with them.

Wishing you all the best.

Hi AB

Thanks for replying, its nice to hear from someone who has an experience of Crohns!
I had been put back on the pred as I had finished the course (8 weeks) and had started aza but went straight into a flare up. I was on a reducing does starting at 25mg as i had discussed my not liking the medication with my consultant and he thought this would be the lowest productive dose. I was on 15mg when I stopped taking it. they admit that i should have had a cross over from pred to aza but for some reason that didnt happen. unfortunately when i have a flare I suffer with a huge amount of joint pain which results in me being unable to walk. Its like having a duel flare up!

Im going to have a look at the drug you mentioned and talk to my doctor on thursday, it would be nice to have something else to try that may help with the symptoms without the horrid side effects! it feels like i have been in a flare up since my colonoscopy back in August last year, before that I didnt have any pain in my stomach at all :frown: now its every day which they say is because I have some strictures, the largest being 35cm.

Have had a day of resting ,soup and a soft dinner so hopefully tomorrow i can have a better day.

When you see the doc I would ask more about the strictures you have and whether they are down to scarring and inflammation. Also ask your doc about getting your vitamin levels checked as it is common with crohn's to have deficiencies in this area. Please let us know on how you get on.
