Well I guess hello is as good a place as any to start! I've never joined a forum before but since Ive now had to have surgery I wanted to 'meet' other people that are going through it as well. This is such a deblitating disease and a lot of people know nothing about it...but all my friends now do research bless them.
The doctors think I've had crohns issues since I was a baby but I actually only got diagnosed about 5 years ago...I just turned 30 so thats a lot of time just dealing with it. I have a mono arthritis in my left knee which means its constantly kind of swollen and apparently it all goes hand in hand with crohns...do any of you suffer with mono arthritis like this?
I've have been on pentasa and vit B12 injections for a couple of years and steroids on and off for the last year. I was tried on 2 other standard medications (can never remember the names) but they made me really sick so it was back to the roids to keep the flare ups in check.
Anyway, don't want to prattle on - had a partial bowel resection on 30th June - ileum (sp?) area - about a foot removed. Was seriously so lucky - they managed to do it keyhole. Downside....left hospital after two days (those places make you feel worse I swear) and came home to recuperate. Wasn't given any advice on diet etc so having lost a stone in 5 days I wanted to eat and gain weight so ate what I fancied and slowly my appetite came back. 4 weeks later, I was still having the runs every day after every single thing I ate and was positively miserable.
Ended up calling the hospital and they fast tracked me to the dietician and now I have a whole new diet! Why do they not tell you what you should do before you leave hospital? You have this stinky operation and then just fend for yourself! Anyway, am now doing much better...have had 2 days of no upset tummy - thats a big deal for me! My saviour has been porridge and home made low fat flap jack but I can't live on these alone! Im eating lots of salad and makeing sure I don't eat skin of any fruit or veg so things are going ok - struggling with upping my calcium intake as I don't really care for milk or ice cream but hey - Im getting there! Any diet tips would be so gladly received.
So....I should pipe down now - sorry if I've totally got the wrong end of this whole forum malarky and have just rattled off a load of blah!:ybatty:
Thanks anyway!
