Help Support Crohn's Disease Forum:

Just came across this. We all know the benefits of probiotics for us but it's getting even better.

Hey Brian, so glad you found your way back here!!!! :mbh:

I used to use and sometime still do, VSL#3 and it is certainly not cheap but has the most active probiotics available in Canada. There is information on this on the www.ccfc.ca website. For those who find it pricey another benefit is Activia (in the large containers not the small serving sizes, there are more active bacteria in the larger ones and it is cheaper) I use the vanilla and put my own fruit in it. I have taken both and for now I am trying Gingerforce which has been helping me throught the Christmas holidays and getting longer being well. Glad you are here, again. Hope all is well.:thumleft:

I tried the activia yogurt as well but found it to sugary for me. And now I have gone non dairy so it's a double no! :p

There are non dairy alternatives, like water kefir, which is easy to make at home, once you have the grains. You can also make non dairy yogurts at home.

I make my own yogurt and I LOVE it.

Homemade sauerkraut is also good if you can tolerate it. Lots of lactic acid bacteria there.

Here is the yogurt recipe. I have not tried it myself dairy free as I use cows milk to make my yogurt. I have heard that coconut milk yogurt is awesome! My homemade yogurt is more like a thick drink, but you can place it on some cheese cloth to make it thicker.

Also if your house is on the cool side you can turn your slow cooker to low for 10 min, every few hours to keep it a good temperature. Too cool and the bacteria cant multiply.

I love fermenting stuff at home. I call them my lil buddies. I am weird that way. lol.

The bonus to fermenting stuff at home is there are billions more bacteria than a product you would buy at the store. Bacteria die off as the product sits on the shelf. With things like sauerkraut, they tend to heat the jars during packing which kills off all the good stuff.
