Hi, Just found this site while searching the web for some more information.

being diagnosed came very quickly for me, after only a couple of weeks. This was back in June. Since then things have moved really quickly and I had a right side hemicoltomy six weeks ago. They took out 71cm of small intestine, seems an awlful lot to me!

Have been back since to see the surgeon and he is really pleased. I am seeing my crohns consultant tomorrow and this is when the fun begins and I start medication. I did have a short spell on steriod but had to come off those before the op.

Op went well, although not much fun. Got back to a near normal diet. But think at the weekend I had just too many vegetables and have been paying for it since!! Is it quite normal to to be able to tolerate veg and fruit without stomach cramps??

Hi Helen-
Truthfully, even when I'm not flaring I never eat a completely normal diet. I try to stay somewhat low residue and low fiber. Lots of raw veggies, even a little bit of raw veggies can mess with our bellies. Diet is different for everyone, but try to take note of what bothers you, then avoid it.
You've come across a great resource, welcome to the forum!

Hi Helen, welcome to the forum, the only fruit and vegetables I can tolerate are rocket salad, watercress, tomatoes (surprisingly) and spinach most other things are a big no no, after I had my surgery for about a year I could eat pretty much anything it came out pretty much straight away though - but as time goes on you tend to find that you can eat less and less. Hope your consultant is helpful.
