I started noticing the symptoms in the Fall of 2010. I had just volunteered to lead our school's Parent/Teacher organization. It is a small, parochial school and I didn't expect the politics nor seeing the bad sides of people I had known. Anyway, I attributed my symptoms to the stress and tried to grin and bear it. However the diahrea kept getting worse and more frequent and the pain I had in my "stomach" was getting too much to bear. I finally saw my family doctor who scheduled me with a GI surgeon for a colonoscopy in two weeks. Before I could see the GI doctor, my appendix flared and I had an appendectomy in March. By the end of May, I had the right side of my large intestine removed due to a stricture unlike any my surgeon had ever seen. About 2 weeks into the recovery, I felt great! Then...6 weeks after surgery, I began feeling awful again and my blood tests and stool tests were coming back inconsistent. I had another colonoscopy to find that I had inflamation throughout my large intestine and another stricture where the large meets the small intestine. After a fight with the insurance company, I just started Humira this past Monday and have scheduled an appt. with another specialist for a second opinion about my condition since the surgeon had never seen a stricture like he had removed from me. Looks like I have a long road ahead of me....

Welcome ot the forum botrel4.

I am sorry to hear about the sudden bad health you have experienced. Humira has worked very well for a lot of people and I really hope it works well for you.

Stress is not good for anyone, so maybe it would be worthwhile to taking a different role with the P/T group?

Welcome to the forum!

Wow, what a ride you have had! I hope things calm down with the new treatment so you can get some well deserved "quiet time"!

There are a ton of great people here that understand what you are going through!

Welcome to the forum, botrel!

I've heard teacher drama can get quite ridiculous, but I'm pretty sure it doesn't cause strictures :p

Sounds like you've had a lovely time with your health. Good luck with the Humira!

Now I have a question for all of you...I'm feeling guilty about going for a second opinion. My GI has done a good job - his office's communication isn't the greatest - but he really has done a good job. My family doctor set up the second opinion appt because she says it never hurts to get one. Has anyone else ever went for second opinions and experienced this guilty feeling?

No, no guilt at all, none whatsoever!
I do understand tho, why not write to your current doc and explain why, and give him lots of praise and thanks! Docs like that!
