Hi guys! I am new to the forum, and honestly, I never even thought I would ever join such a thing. You see, the thing is, I was diagnosed with "mild" crohn's disease in 2004. My GI doctor explained that this basically meant I would have flare ups. Most of my symptoms were related to pain. I never had any "bathroom" issues as I liked to refer to them. At the time, my doctor put me on Pentasa to calm down the flare and it seemed to work just fine.
However, since then, I have had more frequent flares, although not so terrible. I am currently on Lialda, which seems to be helping, although not so much the last few days.
Here is my biggest question:
Is it possible that sesame seems have caused a major flare? I had a sesame seed bagel (only because that was the only one left) and 6 hours later I was doubled over in pain. The pain passed, but I am not sure what else to attribute it to.
Thankfully, my crohn's is not so bad, but when I get a flare, it is not pretty. I had the same reaction with popcorn before.
My boggest frustration is that one day I can eat something and be fine and a few days later I eat the same thing and am miserable.
Any thoughts, suggestions, advice?
My affected area is mostly at the junction of small/large intestine.
Thanks!!
Rachel

Hi Rachel and welcome to the community :) I'm sorry to hear you're having troubles right now :(

I don't think that the sesame seeds caused a flare. What I think is that you have active inflammation in your intestines and the seeds acted like sand paper moving over that already very sensitive area.

The problem here is you have transmural (the entire width of your bowel) inflammation in your ileocecal region and you're on a medication that treats only the mucosal (top layer) of your colon. In my opinion, you're on the wrong medication and things aren't going to get better and will potentially get worse until you get on a proper treatment regimen.

If it hasn't lately, the current extent of your disease needs to be evaluated and a proper treatment regimen prescribed. I realize this is probably the last thing you want to hear :(

We're here to help in any way we can. All my best to you.

Hello Rachel and welcome to the forum.

I too was wondering if you were on the right med to keep your tum settled. When was the last time any type of tests were done to check on what is happening inside? I think as already mentioned things need to be checked over for you so you can then get the right treatment to feel well again.
