Hi

I have had crohn's and colitis for 19 years now and its been a long tiring time i started of getting really ill when i was 8 i was very fatigued and struggled with school i was told at first i had ME and that let to get on with it but as things got worse and by the time i was 13 i was really struggling and was doubled over in pain a lot of the time witch led to me missing a lot of school so mum mum pushed for more tests and when i was 15 i was diagnosed fully with both crohns and colitis i at this point had gone from a healthy 8 st to 5st i was tiny and could hardly do anything i was then booked in for a op to removed a large section of my bowel when i was 16 and this took away the affected bowel and was told by the surgon this was one of the worst cases he had seen i struggled to gain weight after the op and after 6 months with no flare it reared its head again and i was put on alot of medication i had many months trying to get the flare under control and was told because of the severity of my crohns i probably would have kids i found this very upsetting but took this on board i then after the flare had calmed tried some new medication which seemed to keep things on a level i would have the ocasional flare but would take a small dose of steroids and would calm down then when i was 20 i had a flare but this came with sickness never had this with a flare but thought it might just be medication but turned out i was expecting my first baby so was rather suprised i then 3 years later had my second son and have now got 4 georgous boys of 6, 3, 2, 6 months and have the odd flare but seem to be able to control them ok i at present am studying to be a midwife which is my one ambition in life which my crohns stopped me doing at the start but i am determind it wont stop me now i ahve one other issue which my crohns seems to have a hold over and thats my weight i have gained alot of weight now 17 st and desperatly want to loose weight but doctors wont help me tried all the diets but getting no where but this is somthing i wm sure i will sort in the end.

Welcome to CrohnsForum Saz. We are lucky to have you join us. Congratulations on your four babies! I noticed your yourngest is only 6 months old. Are you breast feeding? One of the best ways to lose the baby weight is to breast feed. It takes a lot of calories to make such a good quality product. :) It is great for baby too.
Thank you again for joining. We would appreciate any help you can offer.
