I'm new to this site, in fact any forum. (I Posted this in success stories, see I really don't know what I'm doing)
I was diagnosed with Crohns in 2007 when I was 17 (I'm now 21). I was ill for about 7 - 8 months before I finally found out what was wrong. My doctor at the GP kept trying to diagnose me on the phone untill he finally sent me to hospital.
Since then i was put on Asacol which seemed to work for a while but I recently had a flare up and so was put on steroids (pred) but these didn't work they way we wanted. I have a hospital appointment next week so hopefully we can sort this out and stop the pain and tiredness.:ysmile:
On to the next one....

Hello AlexandraRose
Welcome to the forum.
I started to write to you and then lost it, goodness knows whereabouts in cyberspace it now reposes---so you see you are not alone with your first experience.
It is quite shocking to hear of a GP diagnosing and treating over the phone, that is no way to practise medicine. Also it is my opinion that GPs should promptly refer patients to the appropriate specialists for diagnosis and treatment.
It is good that you have a specialist appointment next week and I hope he/she is the best one in the world for you. Please let us know how you get on.
Crohn's can be an elusive diagnosis and no two patients are the same so of course symptoms and medications can differ for each individual. You will find helpful people and articles on this site so take a good look around and you will be sure to find helpful information and lots of support from fellow crohnies.
Good luck with your appointment next week.

Hi AlexandraRose and welcome! I am sorry about your recent flare up. It's a shame the steroids didn't get it under control. What dose did your doctor prescribe?

Good luck with your appointment next week. Hopefully, you and your doctors can come up with a new treatment plan that gets you feeling better soon.

Hi Jill, thanks for making me feel welcome.

My doctor prescribed 40mg for 2 weeks and then a reducing dose for 8 weeks.

I too hope we finally get this under control and find some meds that work.
It's great to get some support from people who understand what you are going through.

Yeah, you should have improved with 40mg. Again, good luck next week and be firm that you are not improving and need something else.

Hi AlexandraRose and :welcome:

Sorry to hear that things are going well. :(

Where is your Crohns located?

I saw your post about Imuran and perhaps the jump up to it from asacol may do the trick and bring things under control again. Imuran will take about 3 months to fully kick in though.

My son was on Prednisone earlier this year and it also didn't have the expected outcome with him. He was on the same dosage and regime as you and it turned out that he had some underlying issues so just keep that in mind if the meds don't seem to be doing their job.

Good luck hun and welcome aboard!

Much love,
