HI,

I was diagnosed with Crohn's in April, after having been sick for about a year before going to the doctor. I'm on 200 mg of Aza a day and I'm experiencing new symptoms all the time. I'm still freaked out, can anyone tell me what i can expect with this? I never know if i should be going to the doctor or not. I have an appointment with my specialist tomorrow and I'm off work sick today. I almost fell over at work today, thank god for that wall behind me. Any advice would be very appreciated.

Hey shopgirl,
Sorry, can't tell you what to expect - everyone has a different story to tell. I do know that the first few months are pretty scary; a lot of weird things happening to the body and not a darn thing you can do about it. It makes things look pretty helpless at first.
Take heart, though. As time passes, you'll become more educated (you should, anyway!) in the disease and will be able to not only predict certain responses, but might even get a bit of control over certain areas of your life.
The first casualty with crohn's is our confidence, attitude and self-worth. All of these are subjective, though, so you can work through them. Just take the day as it comes; if we look at the entirety of the impact this has on our lives, it can be overwhelming. But, we can all manage to get through one day.
As time passes, you'll be able to become more accepting of your "new normal" and find ways to work around it. Until then, we just have to get through the day.
Hang in there!

hi shop girl

i to was diagnosed in april after years of being unwell and being thrown from specialist to specialist. the past few months have been a real challenge trying to get used to this 'new normal' as geshep puts it.
reading through other peoples stories on here and other websites has been really helpful.
i'm trying to learn as much as i can about this disease but are taking it slowly. i found concentrating on one aspect at a time helpfull.... got my head around the actual disease and whats it doing to my body.... then the drugs.... only now starting to consider diet (and somedays i just completely try to ignore the whole bloody thing!)
i also struggle to know when to go to the doctor... everyone on here seems to put up with alot of pain, discomfort, fatigue, medication side effects etc. i think i probably leave it to long.... i think if your falling over a trip to the dr would not be inappropriate! specialist appointments are few and far between (i was weekly then fortnightly now 6 weekly). i would recomend writing down questions you have to take to your specialist appointments. i always miss things (the dr's always have different priorities than us). and if you start asking dr google inbetween appointments you can freak yourself out!
keep on keeping on xx

Hi shopgirl and welcome! I am sorry you are still not feeling good after starting Aza. Unfortunately, I don't think anyone can say for sure what to expect with this disease. Each case is so very different. All you can do is take care of yourself the best that you can.

I hope your appointment goes well today, and you and your GI can work out a new game plan. Keep us posted!
