Why are you concerned? Is it because your worried that the azathioprine might not work?

Hi Mic

I was on the Azathioprine for quite a while. I hope it helps you. It's a shame your insurance won't cover the other drugs, but there are risks associated with them as well. I know it's hard not to worry. Good luck.

I've been on Azathioprine for several years now. Dr's continued it after my last surgery. I do not have side effects and the Crohn's is under control. It's my BBF. If everyone had such luck as I have had, we'd all be on the stuff.

Hello Mic~
Sometimes insurance will deny those medications at first. If you end up failing you current meds and your doctor has good chart notes usually insurance will end up covering what you need. I don't know where you are or the laws in your state but I would check into to that further if I were you. I have found over the years that you have to be your own advocate because the insurance company is going to try to cover the cheapest meds possible. Good luck to you I hope everything works out....

hmmm? Do physicians prescribe Remicade/Humira etc. more as a last resort, after other medications have failed or have not been as successful? Just a thought. I would much rather be on Azathioprine than the forementioned. The first being that I'm much happier to save the $$ for my insurance company and save the big guns for if and when I ever get worse.
Believe it or not, I pay the same co-pay for Azathioprine as I would the Humira for a 90 day supply.

I started on Remicade because the Asacol/Lialda and 6-MP just were not doing anything for me anymore. Now the Remicade is not doing a whole lot either.
