Hi jpace and welcome to the community :)

My goodness, I'm so sorry to hear of your new diagnosis and predicament :(

First off, you're going to have a steep learning curve. Crohn's Disease (at present) is a chronic, lifelong condition that is characterized by inflammation of the intestinal tract and often leads to "extraintestinal manifestations" of symptoms/problems outside the intestinal tract. Some people can have long periods of "remission" where there aren't any symptoms whereas others struggle a lot. Everyone is different.

Take this disease VERY seriously. Even when you feel fine, take the medications they give you. Do whatever it takes to get the assistance you need so that you can be seen at least somewhat regularly by a gastroenterologist. This may be through some sort of local clinic, state aid, medicaid, I don't know. But it's important that you receive proper care.

Some questions:

1. What are your symptoms?
2. Have they discussed medications with you at all?
3. How long have you had your symptoms?

Read, read, and read some more. Then ask as many questions as you can. Then read more. Educate yourself about medications, diets, alternative treatments, and everything you can. Become an expert in this disease. This will allow you to advocate for yourself and help ensure that you receive the care you deserve.

We're here to help you every step of the way with this.

*hugs*

Hello Jpace
It must be quite a shock for you to find you have such a diagnosis.
You are not alone many of us are in the same situation.
However there are some really good drugs available theses days and hopefully the docs will soon find one that suits you and brings a remission to your symptoms.
David has really covered the field and there is nothing I can add to that.
There will no doubt be other members along to add their opinions.
Welcome to the forum and many new friends.
Feel better soon
Hugs and best wishes
Trysha
