Hey all,

I'm Jo, I'm 28 and have had Crohns for nearly 20years. I was one of the first few children in New Zealand that was diagnosed with it. Not that they knew what it was and it took years before they actually figured it out...awareness is alot better now. I'm amazed to read all you storeys and am amazed how many of you there are out there! I have a few family members with Crohns aswell. I have been on remition for about 10 years now, I recall when I was young, how painfull it is, blood transfusions...I had a few. Was so scared that they would have to operate, luckely they caught it in time and were able to medicate me. I also recall the doc's saying the crohns usually comes in your late 20's early 30's and it was uncommon for someone so young to have it. I'm 28 now and am starting to worry that it may come back!!! But what will happen will happen.
I was on Pentasa and various multi vitamins and folic acid also steriods for alot of years. when I reached 20 I decided to stop taking Pentasa and have not had any problems really, I've kynda got a handle on it, I know when Its flaring up so I know when to calm my self/life/food...etc down.
All I can say to all of you is to not let this get to you, you will feel better, and things if they are bad right now will be good soon, keep good spirits...dont stress - Thats a major I reckon!!!

Welcome Jo! I'm glad you've been able to control it so well. My son was dxed last year at age 10. We've been able to keep it mostly at bay since his diagnosis.

Are you having symptoms again that causes you to fear it's return? Is there something different from other flares that you've been able to control?

Good luck and stick around!!

Welcome Jomx to the forum. It's nice to hear of a good story and a positive one too. We need good positive vibes going out to all of us. You are lucky that your doing well and I know many of the people here will enjoy your story. Hope you stick around and share your information as you read the threads.

Hey Jo
Good to hear a positive story. I too was dx about 20 years ago, I'm 35 now. Alot has changed over the years. Very few people had even heard of CD when I was dx. There are so many diverse treatments options available now, as compared to back then. Glad you found your way here. Look forward to seeing you around. Welcome aboard.

Hi Jo

Thanks guys :)

Dexky - Its not that Ive had any new symptons, just that I've been in remition for so long now and its more common for it to flare up late 20's from what I've heard. But as I say - what will happen will happen just gotta do the best to control it :)

rottengut91 - That name...made me laugh but also cringe at the same time!!!! 20years and yes it has come a long way aye! Doctors were checking out there manuals back then !! I was even on TV doc when I was young as one of the first few kiddies diagnosed with it...very embarrassing for a ten year old!

Hi Jomx - Glad you found this site - I, too, was diagnosed with UC when I was about 14 - about 45 years ago and now they think it's Crohn's. It is amazing the progress they have made - believe it or not, I am still with the same gastroenterelogist - I think he walks on water and I keep telling him I refuse to let him ever retire!!! Glad to hear you have been in remission for so long - that's great! Gives a lot of people cause for hope! Thanks for sharing your story with us....

Hi Jomx and :welcome:

Good to see you here and a big wave :bigwave: from across the ditch! It's so good read that you have been in remission for 10 years and may it continue for many, many more to come. You have a wonderful attitude and I really admire you for that. I hope you stick around 'cause we would love to have you here. All the very best and welcome aboard!

Take care, :)
Dusty
