Hello all! I just joined the forum today and would like to introduce myself. I am a 29-year old mother of 1 son age 4. I was diagnosed in October of 2003 4 months after he was born. At that time I was diagnosed with crohns during a week long hospitalization, landed back in the hospital in 3 weeks with a high temp and there was undiagnosed by a totally different doc and taken off of all meds (including Pred) and was snt home after 8 days in the hospital, finally four weeks later I flared within my esophagus causing me not able to eat or drink anything and causing a 15 pound weight loss in 2 wks. During that hospitalization I was rediagnosed by a completely different doc with CD and snt home this time after another week but probably too early because I am also a RN and didn't like my hospital care.
I have been through 5 different GI docs mainly because when I get sick I want to be able to see my doctor and not have to wait for an appt and end up getting admitted because my probs weren't treated in a timely manner. I have developed fistulizing issues and was on remicaide for 1 year 3 years ago and life was great until I had lupus-like reaction to the med causing my joints to swell 3 times their size. They stripped me off and slapped me on prednisone for the remainder of the year. This has not helped the fistulas forming and last fall I had to have a fistulectomy which has turned out to be a failure. I have tried all 5-ASA meds, imuran, entecort, remicade and prednisone has been the only med that has helped me. It is my wonder drug but I also gain up to 30 pounds each time and hate the insomnia, moon face, hot flashes, and mood swings that come with it. I am hoping to try to get on the Humira that was just approved because although I have not had extreme signs and symptoms as I did when I was newly diagnosed, my last scans have shown narrowing and I want to avoid major surgery as much as possible.
This is the first "support type" thing that I have joined in 4 years of suffering so hopefully you all can help me as I hope to help you.

Welcome to the forum . . . hang in there and I hope they find something that will stablize you. Have you tried any of the alternative nutritional supplements that might help the traditional meds work with your body? Sometimes the right combination works even better than the sum of the parts. Keep reading and asking -- there's tons of experience and advice in this forum.
