Howdy all! :cat:

I'm confused, and hopefully I'll be able to find some answers on this forum :) So here we go:

In early November I became violently ill with diarrhea, vomiting, and extreme pain in my stomach. I'm no stranger to diarrhea, and usually an Imodium or two calms things down - but not this time. I had a fever, chills, couldn't keep any food or liquids down and finally went to the doctor after doubling over and crying in pain after trying to eat some soup broth on the third day of this fiasco. Doctor put me in the hospital that day where they examined my lovely bloody ketchup-consistency stool daily, did a bunch of blood work, finally got me hydrated and not using the restroom every half hour. When I was stable enough to be discharged, my doctor said this is looking to be either Crohns, UC, or gluten intolerance, but the blood results would be ready in a few days.
So, skip forward and the blood test comes back positive for Crohns. Next step, endoscopy; results: mild inflammation. Next, colonoscopy; results: very minor inflammation most likely due to the colon cleanse. I'm still due for a small intestine X-ray, but at this point I'm wondering if there's any way the test (not sure which one it was) could give a false positive simply based on elevated levels of something in my body?

I've been dealing with my 16-year-old baby of a cat having IBD for over a year and he's been in remission with no symptoms for months now :) So while I know alot about these diseases in cats, when it comes to myself I'm completely lost!

Thank you for reading and hopefully someone has had a similar experience or some insight!

Happy Holidays!!!

Welcome to the club no one wants to join.hopefully it's not crohns it can vary from person to person.i seemingly wasn,to badly inflamed on my colonoscopy but at the time had little control over my backside, acid reflux and crohns can go together it can be frustrating to suffer and treat, but it can be managed so basically you can have a serious case of the trots and your bloods can be ok,frustrating.good luck

Welcome. Your symptoms coupled with the findings of inflammation seem to be a strong indication of IBD. While IBD can be challenging to diagnose sometimes it can
also be very clear to a gastroenterologist. If you feel more comfortable getting another opinion on your tests there is nothing wrong with that.

Hi there and welcome. Crohn's disease should never be diagnosed by blood test alone as there are indeed plenty of false positives. The blood tests are simply a signpost on what is sometimes a bit of a long road. Let's hope that it is not Crohn's or Ulcerative Colitis.

Please keep us updated.
